Soren pronunciation

We are considering the name [name_m]Soren[/name_m], pronounced SORE-in. After doing a little research, I have found that the traditional Danish/Norwegian pronunciation is more like SIR-in. I don’t like how it sounds this way, and I also think we’d be setting our child up for a lifetime of correcting people. But I also feel conflicted about anglicizing a name from another culture just because I like it better that way. What do all you name gurus think? Is SORE-in an acceptable pronunciation?

I think it is, as I think most people in English-speaking countries would pronounce it SORE-in.

soo… here’s the thing. The thing that makes this name pronounced “sur-en” rather than Sorr-en" is the use of the ö or ø symbol. I assume you will not be using either, which would make [name_m]Soren[/name_m] (with just that plain old “O”) prn. Sorr-en.

Ditto to what @esita said. The spelling you’re using is meant to be pronounced Sorr-en. I think it’s a wonderful name, go for it!
