Southern gentleman name needed!

We just found out we’re expecting again, and while we’ve had a girl’s name picked out forever, we are struggling with (another) boy’s name. I gravitate toward vintage, southern names, and already have a [name_m]Hampton[/name_m] and an [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]. Our last name makes things a bit difficult (starts with Sh and ends in -er). My long list is below, and I would love any input and/or additional suggestions! Thank you!

john davis (Both family names. He would go by both).
shepherd (family name)
shackleford (family name. He would go by ford. It’s a bit much, and I’m not sure about the double “Sh” sound with our last name.)
gable (family name)
forrest
truett
abel
garner (Not sure about names ending in -er with our last name ending in -er)
webster
garland
tobias (nickname obie)
hutchinson (hutch)
john garner
john owen
truman
gilead (is this too far out there?)
walt
rafferty
howard - (family name. Would go by ward)
bo
louie
sherman
whitfield

I like:
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Gable[/name_m]
[name_m]Webster[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Hutchinson[/name_m]
[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_m]Louie[/name_m]
I like just [name_u]Whit[/name_u] or [name_f]Whitley[/name_f], but not Whitfield

I like:

[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Webster[/name_m] - I don’t think “er” names are off limits with your surname.
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Truman[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilead[/name_m] - would make an awesome middle name choice
[name_u]Bo[/name_u]
Whitfield

[name_m]Sherman[/name_m] is definitely not used in the southern states, lol. I think [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], and [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Abel[/name_m] would make good double names.

Thank you! I like [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] as a double, I hadn’t considered that!

My favorites are [name_m]Truett[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Truman[/name_m], [name_u]Beau[/name_u] (I like this spelling only though), and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. I’m not a huge fan of double names, though I know they are popular in the South. Regarding the having a first name that ends in -er when your last name also ends in -er thing - this is the case with my first and last name and I’ve always thought it sounded just fine. Actually, I’ve gotten compliments on the flow of my name a couple of times. I think it just depends on what the first and last names are.

Suggestions:

[name_m]Montgomery[/name_m]

[name_u]Cal[/name_u] ([name_m]Callahan[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m])
[name_u]Grady[/name_u]
[name_m]Garrison[/name_m]

My favorites are [name_m]Truett[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Truman[/name_m], [name_u]Beau[/name_u] (I like this spelling only though), and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is my all time southerrn fried favorite! [name_u]Beau[/name_u] is so classic but I think it best serves as a middle name. [name_m]Truett[/name_m] [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_u]Beau[/name_u], etc. You list is all very lovely but [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is close to my heart. I just adore it, and [name_m]Shep[/name_m] as a nickname, just so handsome.

Thanks for the suggestions! I like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], and [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]. I am also really liking [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], just am not 100% sold on it with our last name…too much alliteration? [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] Sh—er? Would love some input on that as [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] moves higher and higher up my list

I love [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]

Suggestions:

[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_u]Emory[/name_u] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]
[name_u]Porter[/name_u]

I like alliteration in names I would say as long as you don’t have another -p in your last name you are okay

Nope, no “p” in our last name - you just might have me convinced that [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is the name for me! Thank you!
