Playing with baby names and we like to use family names. Right now we are looking at a girl name, but her monogram would be eTr (ETR). My husband and I are both a little overweight and so our child will likely have some weight issues as well. I’m worried that naming a girl in the south who’s monogram will read ETR (makes me think of “Eater”), will set her up for ridicule and joking. Am I crazy? I love monograms and so I know our daughter will have lots of monogrammed items.
I did not see or think eater when I saw the initials ETR. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time she would need to use her initials (like buying a home and vehicle, the main times I’ve had to use my initials) it would be ERT. It would only be with monograms and as I said eater didn’t occur to me.
I saw it right away. Being that you are a southern momma I am going to assume that a lot of the gifts for your child will probably be monogrammed as well and I can definitely see children in school seeing her monogrammed back pack or lunch box and making a cruel joke. Personally i would err on the side of caution.
ETR wouldn’t have even been a blip on my radar. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though you’ve said you think it looked like Eater, I can’t see many people reading it as eater.
Ok so while you’re not crazy … I feel weird about stuff like that too…
It’s ok… [name_m]Just[/name_m] like if it bothers you don’t do it…
I was thinking of something recently and the initial thought was I can’t use that because the initials come across as a bit of a joke - Think something like MORE when they’re one more kiddo… Basically… I over think these things BUT why not over think it! Big decision !
If it bugs you change it while you can! If it doesn’t but you… Then it’s probably not going to occur boldly to everyone
I never would have thought to pronounce ETR as eater. I was thinking “ett-er” if anything. I think it’s a completely fine monogram. It’s not like it’s GAS or ODR or something in that vein.
I didn’t notice it. But I know in the South people love monogramming things and I think It will bother you… so I would avoid it. Also, you don’t sound 100 percent sold on the name so I would let it go…
