Spanish nickname help

Is Pia/Pía an acceptable nickname for Piedad in the traditional sense? I know it’s a name in itself, but I’ve found some sources that list it as a potential nickname for Piedad. Spanish names generally have specific nicknames so I don’t want to go with [name_f]Pia[/name_f] if something else is the standard. Thanks!

The only Piedad I know goes by [name_f]Pepita[/name_f], which is the traditional short form of [name_f]Josefina[/name_f]. I think a Piedad could definitely go by Pia/Pía or even [name_f]Pita[/name_f] and it not be blinked at. I think Piedad and [name_f]Pia[/name_f] coming from the same root word and having the same meaning also make it seem like it could be a legitimate diminutive.

For context, I’m not Latine or Hispanic, but I did have a close friend growing up who is Mexican and I got to know a lot of her extended family and their names/diminutives that way, but I can’t speak on a broader spectrum of how it would be seen by someone from that culture. I think it could also be viewed differently depending on where in the world you are
