Sparrow?

[name]Sparrow[/name] has been one of my favorites for years and years. I am an avid bird watcher and love birds tremendously. I have kept [name]Sparrow[/name] as a possible middle name, but am considering its first name potential. What are your thoughts on [name]Sparrow[/name]? Should it be left on the middle name list, or upgraded to the first name list? Boy or girl?

I have a soft spot for [name]Sparrow[/name]. I see it as a unisex name, but leaning more towards a girl. It’s absolutely darling and I would be overjoyed to meet a cute little [name]Sparrow[/name]. The only thing holding me back is imagining an adult with the name. I would think their parents are a bit nutty. But as long as you give a nice, at least slightly common middle name it would be great in the first spot.

I love tiny little sparrows with their round little bodies and super cute beaks! They’re so adorable when they tilt their little heads and look at you. I like it as a name! I was going to go in and rant over the girls taking all the good bird names, but then I realised that’s not true at all. So I think it go for either, but I prefer it on a boy.

(There are so many cool bird names, I took down one of my bird books and I’m flipping through it right now!)

[name]Sparrow[/name] is better as a quirky middle name and it sounds kind of oddly weak next to the strong and masculine [name]Luther[/name].

I’m not usually a fan of nature names, but [name]Sparrow[/name] is beautiful. It could be a first name. It makes me think of the song “His Eye Is on the [name]Sparrow[/name]”.

I see it slightly more as a girl name, especially for you as you have [name]Wolf[/name] in your son’s name; I could see boy named [name]Sparrow[/name] being a bit jealous of the bigger, stronger, fiercer [name]Wolf[/name].

I really like [name]Sparrow[/name]. I find it whimsical and enchanting. Personally I would only use it as a middle name (though don’t get the wrong impression, my first name choices are pretty eccentric too) but I would be really delighted to see someone else give their child the first name [name]Sparrow[/name]. Oh, and it’s all girl to me. Fluttering, chirping sparrows are too dainty for a boy, in my opinion!

I spent the morning with [name]Luther[/name] watching some Dark-Eyed Juncos playing around on our patio. He loves animals, and it was the first time he was able to see some birds twittering around. It was great! I want to get him a little pair of binoculars when he is older!

I know someone who just gave this as a middle to their baby girl. They are a bit on the ‘hipster’ side of life so it works for them. I agree that it works better in the middle than as a first as the kid grows up. But I think paired with a more ‘classic’ name it would allow the opportunity to switch over if ever wanted/needed.

That’s so sweet!!! I can just imagine the two of you  (That’s also the reason I want to move out of the city; I’d love to have more nature around when [name]Rosalind[/name] gets older. Not just the foxes rummaging through our bins or the creepy pigeons on the sidewalk!)

I like [name]Sparrow[/name], but I think it works better as a middle name, especially because your son has [name]Wolf[/name] as a middle. I find that thematically quite enchanting

I like the sound, I think with your connection it’s a nice middle name BUT it’s one of those names I’d hate to introduce myself with. Meeting my future boss I really wouldn’t want to say “My name is [name]Sparrow[/name]”. You don’t always want to be “cute”.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]. I think it’s a true unisex, but I personally prefer it for a boy. My boyfriend’s top pick for a boy is [name]Damian[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]. I would probably always call my son [name]Damian[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] rather than just [name]Damian[/name] if we go with it; it’s just too sweet to keep it hidden in the middle. I think it works as a first, but it would get some raised eyebrows I’m sure. Paired with your son’s name, I’d go with the middle however.

Lol! That is hilarious! I love pigeons. I find them so comical! We also a have pesky fox that keeps getting into our garbage. My dog barks at it and it gets really annoying, especially when it happens at 3 in the morning. I live in agricultural area so we get tons of wildlife and birds, its great. Lots of bugs and spiders too, not so great. We have a squirrel that I named [name]Charlie[/name] that raids my bird feeder every day, and [name]Luther[/name] loves him. Its such an easy way to entertain him!

It’s unisex but leans masculine to me. I love it as a fn but with [name]Luther[/name] as a brother a boy [name]Sparrow[/name] sounds weak by comparison. On the other hand if you called your son [name]Wolf[/name] then a brother [name]Sparrow[/name] makes a great pair but I see you refer to him by his fn in your post. I think [name]Sparrow[/name] is best in the middle for a boy but is fine as a fn for a girl.

[name]Damian[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] is an awesome combo! [name]Damian[/name] is actually one of my favorite names and seeing it paired up with [name]Sparrow[/name] is awesome.

I like [name]Sparrow[/name] for a little girl.

I’ll echo what some other said - If your son has the middle name [name]Wolf[/name], I’d see [name]Sparrow[/name] as a bit too timid for his brother. For a sister it would work beautifully as a middle.

I’m not a fan…

Since [name]Johnny[/name] Depp has played [name]Captain[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] the name has taken a masculine turn as it used to be more of a girls name. The only time I’ve heard it was [name]Nicole[/name] Richies son [name]Sparrow[/name] [name]James[/name]. You could also go with a fresh choice like [name]Lark[/name], [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Sterling[/name] - if you want to stick with bird names. I actually prefer [name]Paloma[/name], which is Spanish for [name]Dove[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] that was helpful

My mother went to school with someone named [name]Robin[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]. I thought that was rather unfortunate…
But [name]Sparrow[/name] without any other bird references is way cool!
