What do you think of [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] for a boy’s name?
We have been having the hardest time coming up with a name for [name_f]Baby[/name_f] #6. Nothing felt inspiring. I had been complaining to my husband that there weren’t even any boy names that were enjoyable to say.
We were sitting in our backyard last night, and my husband commented on the scores of birds we had landing in our grass or in our trees. “We have an aviary! Look at all of these sparrows.” I said, “That’s such a pretty word— [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m]. I love the way it sounds.” [name_f]My[/name_f] husband instantly said he loved the idea of using [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] for the baby’s name— it has a beautiful sound, it’s much softer than the other boy names we were tossing around (Solomon/Magnus), it’s unique but won’t be mispronounced, and it genuinely is something we both like saying.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too crunchy or hippie? Our other kids don’t have crunchy names at all (Heidi, [name_m]Rhys[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], Allison), so I feel like it sticks out. I mentioned this to my husband last night who said “I honestly don’t care. I still love it.
It’s such a different direction than we were heading with [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or [name_m]August[/name_m] (maybe less so). One of the very few names that I swooned over was [name_f]Wren[/name_f] (laughably unusable with our last name, unfortunately), so I love the prospect of using another nature/bird name.
I’m actually obsessed with [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] Thomas!! [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] totally sounds like a true name, and is so adorable and cool. With all the nature names for boys becoming popular recently, I think that he is a really ahead of the trend, and a unique choice among a familiar theme of names! Familiar, approachable, yet still distinct and with a touch of whimsy from the bird/nature connection. The classic [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] balances out [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] so well! I truly love it and agree with your husband- if that’s the one that you are drawn too, go for it!! I think [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] fits with your other kids names, as they all have a sort of down to earth, classic-with-a-twist, storybook feel that [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] also has!
[name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is cool - it gives the vibes of [name_f]Wren[/name_f], [name_m]Arlo[/name_m], [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], [name_m]Spencer[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] etc while still being unique and it feels well balanced and flows well. It works with the wordy/animal vibe of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] too maybe?
There were 76 babies (60 girls, 16 boys) called [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] last year in the US, so it is being used?
I think it stands out a bit but still shares sounds/letters with your other children’s names.
Besides, [name_m]Rhys[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] & [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] all remind me of nature. [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] is close to Reed/Reid, [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Graham[/name_m] (“gravelly homestead,” and [name_m]Gifford[/name_m] Pinchot (the first head of the US [name_m]Forest[/name_m] Service) who was big on wildlife conservation. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] reminds me of the girl in the mountains surrounded by sheep.
With the middle name [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] it gets tied in even more neatly, and he could always just go by Thomas/Tom/Tommy or [name_f]Ro[/name_f] if need be in certain situations.
I think it’s a handsome combination, it’s really cute that your husband likes [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] so much, and it’s sweet that it came to you at a quiet moment between the two of you
I think it’s the solution you’ve been waiting for!
Clicked on to express my love for the name sparrow but [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is SO AMAZING! I think it fits in fine and isn’t too earthy crunchy especially since you’re pairing it with a more traditional middle name. Some other middle name ideas…
Honestly I really like [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] he’s soft, outdoorsy, endearing and peaceful. I think [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] has a gorgeous sound and provides a grounded flair to [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] which feels more in keeping with your kiddos. I agree I think [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] is surprising with your kiddos especially with the likes of Allis0n however less so with Griff1n. I would say your sibling set is eclectic so I would just embrace it with [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m]. Furthermore I love an eclectic sibling set so I think embrace the name you love! [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is fab.
Usually I prefer [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] on a girl, but I like [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] a lot! And [name_m]Rhys[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], and [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] work!
Sparrow Thomas is such a lovely name. go for it I also don’t think it’s too out of line with siblings names - a little unexpected but not in a confounding way - and I’m of the opinion anyway that the more babes you’ve named already, the bolder you ought to be for the next!
It sounds like it was meant to be! The universe said so
[name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is so very cool while peaceful and so handsome. It stands out a bit, but not too badly. It matches [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] just fine, for example. I think your kids’ names actually branch out quite a bit, so it’s not one single different one.
I agree, [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] has a great sound. Since it’s the only option you feel excited by and your husband is on board, it’s got to be a serious contender.
I would still give a lot of thought about how you would feel managing other people’s reactions and factor that in. Would negative reactions be a small bother or would they be a big bother for you?
[name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] sounds awesome and I think that [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] may be able to be seen as somewhat crunchy in the right context. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] also gives it a little kick to make it not too crunchy. [name_m]Sparrow[/name_m] overall is a very cool and hip name!
