[name_m]Calum[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] or [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]?
My only concern is that [name_m]Callum[/name_m] will get mispronounced “call-em”… and I’m wondering if anyone makes a connecting between [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and the word callus?!? That is my onlyyy hesitation on this name.
Likewise, [name_m]Calum[/name_m] could get mispronounced [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-[name_m]Lem[/name_m]
For reference- we live in the US, so if you don’t mind listing what country you’re from! THANK YOU!!
I’m in the US. I feel like [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is common enough that most people will know how to pronounce it, and I would never have made the connection to the word callus had you not mentioned it.
I live in the US. I definitely prefer [name_m]Callum[/name_m]! [name_m]Calum[/name_m] seems unfinished to me, and I’ve never made the association with callus or heard in pronounced “call-em.” [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a wonderful name!
Looove [name_m]Callum[/name_m]/[name_m]Calum[/name_m]! I’m in the US but only know of the name through NB. However, I think the pronunciation seems pretty straightforward for both spellings. I personally like how [name_m]Callum[/name_m] looks better and it’s on my list too, but I have seen all the comments on its page about it looking like “callus” and it gives me hesitation, so given all the votes for [name_m]Callum[/name_m], I’m going to be a voice of dissent and vote for [name_m]Calum[/name_m] for real-life use congrats! You can’t go wrong either way.
Oh, I don’t know how to help you. I really prefer [name_m]Calum[/name_m], but [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is way more common the U.S. I don’t think it will get mispronounced. I agree w/you that [name_m]Calum[/name_m] may get [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-lum though. So, I suppose go w/[name_m]Callum[/name_m]. It’s a great name.
I think [name_m]Calum[/name_m] is more likely to be mispronounced as [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-lum than [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is to be mispronounced as Call-um (though I see how one would worry about that). I think folks are much more familiar with the [name_m]Callum[/name_m] spelling. I love [name_u]Cal[/name_u] !
I’m in the US (northeastern) & am familiar w/[name_m]Callum[/name_m] through reading lots of British books. Unfortunately I’ve never met a [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]IRL[/name_m], but I’ve also never seen [name_m]Calum[/name_m] used. I wouldn’t have thought of the word “callus” & I wouldn’t have thought that [name_m]Callum[/name_m] was pronounced Call-em either. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is a really cool name & goes well w/[name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
I would vote for [name_m]Calum[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] on the strength of [name_m]Calum[/name_m] Hood from 5 Seconds of [name_f]Summer[/name_f] being a [name_m]Calum[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], but I totally understand if that’s a reason for you to go the opposite direction.
Maybe I’m just weird, but [name_m]Callum[/name_m] reminds me of Gollum from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings, so I would prefer the [name_m]Calum[/name_m] spelling
