Spelling/Thoughts for Add-Uh-Lay?

We like the name [name]Add[/name]-Uh-[name]Lay[/name] for our girl, but can’t find a good spelling. I like [name]Adele[/name] the best, but everyone would pronounce it [name]Ah[/name]-[name]Dell[/name]; and I suppose it would be cruel to spell the name [name]Adel[/name]”?

Here are the spellings I can think of…what do you guys like?

[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Adelei[/name]
Adelai
Adalai
[name]Adelais[/name]
Adelae
Adelaie

We are also considering [name]Adelyn[/name], but it may be too similar to recently popular Madilyns and Addisons.

[name]Adelais[/name] is actually an ancient [name]German[/name] form of [name]Adelaide[/name] so I would advise you to go with that spelling. You may get people who pronounce the “s” at the end but all they need is a gentle correction that it’s pronounced “[name]Add[/name]-Uh-[name]Lay[/name]”. Good luck, [name]Mischa[/name].

Yep, [name]Mischa[/name] rights. [name]Adelais[/name] is how it should be spelt. Adelai/[name]Adelei[/name] would be [name]Add[/name]-uh-lie to me.

I like Adelai. To me it’s pronounced like the boy’s name [name]Adlai[/name] but with the e there in the middle, it gives it that extra syllable. With [name]Adelais[/name], I would want to pronounce the S.

i know someone named this. its Adileh

Adelaye perhaps?

[name]Adelais[/name]! [name]Love[/name] the name and the spelling and as said before I would stick with the traditional old [name]German[/name] spelling. It doesn’t matter if someone pronounces it with the s… You only have to tell them once! We are going to name our baby girl [name]Adelais[/name] , due in august.

So glad for this post we were considering that too and didn’t know there was a known spelling like Adalais.

[name]Adelais[/name] makes the most sense to me. I’m certain you’ll get the s pronounced frequently, but that’s an easy correction and it’s a far more intuitive pronunciation than [name]Adele[/name] pronounced [name]Add[/name]-uh-lay.
Is there a reason you don’t like [name]Adelaide[/name]? It’s almost the exact same sound, but it’s far more recognizable and would totally eliminate most spelling and pronunciation problems.

There is a song by pop-punk band The [name]Pink[/name] Spiders with this name as it’s title; spelt Adalae, which is quite pretty! I love the sound of it, and the spelling Adalae would cause less confusion than many others.

I’d go with [name]Adelais[/name]. [name]Adel[/name]” does look terrible to me, sorry. [name]Adelais[/name] is the spelling I thought of just from the title of the post- I think it’s pretty!
