Spellings for Vivian

We both like this name, but are struggling with spellings. DH likes plain [name]Vivian[/name] because he feels it’s the most classic and unpretentious option (seeng as we’re not French). I quite like [name]Vivien[/name] or possibly [name]Vivienne[/name] as well, though. Not sure if the latter is too tainted by celebrity and/or frilly to use?

What’s your favourite spelling, and why?

My favourite is [name]Vivienne[/name], she’s elegant, classy and sophiscated.
However [name]Vivienne[/name] is frilly and she is tainted by celebrity use, people do associate [name]Vivienne[/name] with the [name]Jolie[/name]-Pitts and could believe that you are copying them. Nevertheless this is only some most will simply think the name is gorgeous and that’s the prettiest spelling. But DH is right [name]Vivian[/name] is the automatic spelling [name]Vivienne[/name] is a variant of [name]Vivian[/name] and the simple spelling is unpretentious. I think personally the spelling of this name comes comes down to what you want! [name]Do[/name] you value simplicity over style? If so go with [name]Vivian[/name] or if you value style over simplicity go with [name]Vivienne[/name]. Either way [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] are the best spellings (I dislike [name]Vivien[/name]) but they provide different atributes and it’s what you personally want from a name that matters. My favourite is [name]Vivienne[/name] because she has a certain allure and a great style.

I think [name]Vivienne[/name] is popular enough that most people don’t automatically associate the name with the [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] clan. It’s my favorite spelling, followed by [name]Vivian[/name]. To me, [name]Vivienne[/name] feels fresher and [name]Vivian[/name] still has a grandma vibe to it (even though I know it’s fairly popular).

I prefer [name]Vivienne[/name]! Absolutely beautiful!

My niece is [name]Vivien[/name] and then I have a friend whose daughter is [name]Madeleine[/name] Viviann (the extra n was added bc both she and her mother have [name]Ann[/name] as a mn and are the first girls, and then my friend’s grandmother was [name]Vivian[/name]. They pronounce is [name]Vivi[/name]-[name]Ann[/name] though). I think my favorite spelling is [name]Vivian[/name] because it is simple. [name]Vivienne[/name] is too frilly for my taste.

I used to like the name [name]Vivian[/name], before the [name]Pitt[/name]'s used it. Now it is just so trendy and I predict it will become very popular (esp with all the different spellings). My favorite spelling though is [name]Vivienne[/name]…it just looks so much prettier than [name]Vivian[/name] on paper!

I like [name]Vivian[/name] best. It’s more streamlined and less pretentious than [name]Vivienne[/name]. There’s also [name]Viviane[/name], which looks sophisticated but has no [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] association.

I couldn’t agree more!

[name]Vivien[/name] is my favourite spelling, then [name]Vivienne[/name] (I associate it with Westwood, not [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name]). I do love [name]Vivian[/name] as well though, but in my head it’s more masculine.

I prefer [name]Vivienne[/name]. I like that it is more elaborate and frilly. My surname is french, so that spelling would make more sense for me though. [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Vivien[/name] are lovely as well. I am sorry, I am not much help. You can’t go wrong either way. It really is a nice name.

I kind of agree with your husband. I like [name]Vivienne[/name] in theory, but it just really does feel sort of pretentious to me. And should you put the emphasis on the last syllable?

I prefer [name]Vivian[/name]. I really like more simplistic spellings.

I prefer the spelling [name]Vivienne[/name]! But I think which ever way you spell [name]Vivien[/name]/[name]Vivian[/name] it’s still elegant and classy.

I usually use [name]Vivian[/name] or [name]Vivienne[/name] :).
