Stained-Glass Names

I love this imagery/theory (?) I came up with years ago, this idea of a combo that feels like a stained-glass window name (and/or just a standalone name). For me, these names feel religious, but not necessarily Bible-name-only, a little bit old-and-crumbly, brilliant with color and personality, and light and beauty always filter through them.

One of my combos that most feels like a stained-glass name to me is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] (although [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] is pretty close behind). I think individually, [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Christiana[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f], and Arabella/Isobel also feel quite stained-glass-ey.

If you had to recommend some stained-glass window names, what would you recommend? Particularly in love with the idea of a stained-glass combo for [name_f]Grace[/name_f], which I’m wanting to add back to my list, but I’ve used most if not all my favorite stained-glass names, and could use some inspiration. I would love any thoughts you have! Thank you, lovelies!

This is so interesting because to me [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is the opposite of a stained-glass name, it’s all grays and browns. That being said I LOVE your [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] combos.

Other names that give me similar feels (may or may not be particularly religious as that’s not really my wheelhouse)

Thanks everyone!

@Victory55 - thank you - I think gem names sounds interesting - I am not a huge fan in general, and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is not the best Biblical namesake, but I do love [name_f]Peridot[/name_f] and she does feel very stained-glass-y! Also love [name_f]Alexandrina[/name_f] and Aurelia/Aurelie and maybe some form of Magdalena/Maddalena/Madelina/etc. in theory. [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is rather lovely but doesn’t feel very stained-glassy to me.

@greyblue - thank you, [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I do rather like the idea of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] although I’m not sure I love the bold purple and red imagery I get with Scarlet(t) and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] together. I also LOVE [name_f]Kezia[/name_f] but never though of her as stained-glassy!

@OctaviaMay - the synesthesia does pose a problem, haha. I do like the idea of [name_f]Hannelore[/name_f] although I’m more fond of Hannelotte myself. I’m always pro [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] everything, it’s one of my favorite honor names. I don’t know that I’d do [name_f]Petra[/name_f] again, since [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] is so high on my list, but I am always fond of her!

@tori101 - thanks girl! I do like a lot of these names; somehow a lot of them don’t feel super stained-glass like though? I am contemplating [name_f]Tess[/name_f] Emmanuelle/Tessa [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] though. I am also fond of Pasqualina and [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f], too!

@LoneStar - thanks girl! [name_f]Grace[/name_f] was my grandma’s middle and that’s probably why it’s such a lovely deep purple for me, my grandma loved the color purple. Plus she also loved [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] and being in church so even though I wouldn’t instantly say “oh yeah she looks like stained glass” I still think she pairs great with stained-glass names (which are also rather complex and makes [name_f]Grace[/name_f] more interesting too imo!). I like Magdalena/Maddalena, [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], etc. from your list - [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] doesn’t feel too much like stained glass, but [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] or [name_f]Fioralba[/name_f] do…

@almostactually - thanks! [name_f]Sistine[/name_f] is so fun. I don’t know that [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Sistine[/name_f] works the best but it is a really fun idea. I also adore [name_f]Perpetua[/name_f], I’ve considered [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Perpetua[/name_f] myself. [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] is also one I’ve been considering, although I’ve got [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Philou[/name_f] on my list currently. I don’t know that I’d do [name_f]Philou[/name_f] and [name_f]Philomena[/name_f].

@seawillow - thanks girl! I always love seeing the names you come with. I don’t love [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] but I do love [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]! [name_u]Will[/name_u] probably think about her more seriously, along with [name_f]Olivet[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Bethlehem[/name_f], [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f], [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f], etc. I am contemplating adding [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] to my list, but if I do, I already have a combo for her (Arabella [name_f]Lilavati[/name_f] Jane).

I would love to hear any other ideas anyone has!

Maybe [name_f]Graciella[/name_f] [name_f]Sistine[/name_f]. Gives the same meaning, but breaks up the repetitive sounds.

Thank you! I’m not the hugest Graciella/Graciela fan, but it would help with all the hissy sounds. I was thinking more about maybe pairing [name_f]Sistine[/name_f] with a different first name, or maybe something like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] ______ [name_f]Sistine[/name_f].

I think the name that sounds most stained glass to me is [name_f]Florizella[/name_f].

Otherwise, I love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Anela[/name_f] [name_f]Sistine[/name_f] or [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Angeli[/name_f] [name_f]Sistine[/name_f].

I love this post. Right up my alley!

I published a time travel book three years ago in which stained glass imagery came through strongly and adamantly for me. Here are some of the names in the book:

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a different vein of church names for me, but I did see in your comments that your grandmother (who sounds lovely) loved the color purple and went a-ha!

[name_f]Violetta[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Amor[/name_u]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] [name_u]Milan[/name_u]
[name_f]Violette[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Romany[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

@shells15 - [name_f]Florizella[/name_f] is super interesting! I want to love it, but I don’t know if I’m there yet? I think I like the similar feeling [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] a little more. Anjali/Angelie and [name_f]Anela[/name_f] are interesting; I want to love them but I’m not a huge fan of most [name_u]Angie[/name_u] names (except Evangeline).

@notcinnamon - I’m very picky about my 2-mn combos, but I am quite fond of [name_u]Garnet[/name_u], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is already in my top 5, but [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] is very interesting with her! I especially like the idea of [name_u]Garnet[/name_u] because it’s my mom’s birth stone, but I think I like [name_f]Peridot[/name_f] more as far as an unusual gem name goes. And [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] is interesting! I also have [name_f]Violet[/name_f] on my list so idk if I would go [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], but I do love the idea of an unusual middle (and longer) middle name with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] to offset her popularity. [name_u]Romany[/name_u] reminds me of [name_u]Romy[/name_u] which I am currently crushing on - I do weirdly like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Romy[/name_u] even though it’s kind of the opposite of what I was thinking of doing with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] lol!
