I have a few questions regarding naming a boy [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], etc.
First, is it weirder to name a baby born in [name_f]July[/name_f]/[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (after his star sign) or to name a baby born in [name_u]December[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m]? Same question for a baby born in [name_f]July[/name_f] who is named [name_m]Julian[/name_m].
Also, if someone has a boy whose star sign is [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (whose name is NOT [name_m]Leo[/name_m]), would it be unfair to this son if his brother (whose star sign is NOT [name_m]Leo[/name_m]) is named [name_m]Leo[/name_m]?
I personally don’t think it matters! If someone was named Sagittarius and that wasn’t their sign then yeah that would be weird but [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a standard name in itself. As for month names I wouldn’t assume that someone called [name_m]Julian[/name_m] is born in [name_f]July[/name_f] or [name_f]Mae[/name_f] was born in [name_f]May[/name_f]. I don’t think it matters with standard names that are established so you shan’t worry!
I don’t think any of that matters at all. If you like a name, use it, if you don’t don’t. I normally go by the way a name sounds, then by the way it looks written and typed, whether it has any symbolic meaning, and the meaning of the name. That is how I decipher whether a name is worth liking or loving. Also if the is a way to incorporate a family name at all plays a small role.
I also don’t think that it matters! If you like the name and the baby doesn’t happen to be a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] use it regardless! I don’t think it is weird to name a baby after the month or star sign either!
I also would not necessarily think a boy named [name_m]Julian[/name_m] was born in [name_f]July[/name_f] (you’re much less likely to name him Cancer than you are to call him [name_m]Leo[/name_m]…lol). I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is one of the most obvious ones, but as others have said, it is a legitimate name in and of itself and not many people will even know your child’s birthday so putting two and two together will mostly be reserved for family and teachers to do. If you want to make it a bit less obvious you could always name a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] boy [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]/[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]/etc. so that it wasn’t quite as blatant. And as far as a younger brother born in [name_u]March[/name_u] being named [name_m]Leo[/name_m], that might actually offer a cute tie-in to his siblings name. It would be similar to naming a younger sister [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] ([name_f]July[/name_f]'s birthstone). I feel like I’m rambling, but no I don’t think it matters more whether they are or aren’t born in that month, especially with the more established names like [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], or [name_m]Julius[/name_m]. =]
I think for [name_f]April[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u], girls would get the question about their birth month.
[name_f]May[/name_f], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u]–highly doubt it.
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] - nope, can’t imagine it coming up unless astrology is extremely important to you.
Would you ask if a girl named [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] was a virgo?
The less common the name, the more likely the question I think–[name_f]September[/name_f] would get questions, so might [name_m]Aries[/name_m].
Would it matter to anyone else? I highly doubt it. Would I personally find it odd enough to not do it? Yes.
It would bother me to have a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] who wasn’t a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] when his brother was, but that’s just a personal quirk from my tendency to [name_m]WAY[/name_m] over think things.
thanks everyone! I love your feedback and I think it confirms that I am probably overthinking it. I also like amydomsmom’s idea of intentionally establishing this connection between two siblings.
I don’t think it actually matters - and it shouldn’t really, if you love the name - but I am incredibly picky and can’t stomach the idea of using a time/month/star sign name if the child wasn’t actually born then.
I love [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] and [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] (which means dawn) for girls as first or middle names, but [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] would have to be born at 6 a.m. in [name_f]October[/name_f], catch my drift?
Same goes for names that mean things like “red-headed” ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! - because there’s no guarantee the baby will be a ginger) or have other connections to a birth month/time ([name_u]Ruby[/name_u] = [name_f]July[/name_f]'s birthstone, [name_f]Eira[/name_f] means “snow”, etc). Also, names with bad meanings, no matter how great they sound, are a no-no; I love [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] but I wish so much it meant “jewel” or at least something simple like “small hill,” anything other than “lame.”
Some of my favorite names are [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], [name_f]October[/name_f], [name_f]July[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Snow[/name_f]… but I could never use them if the baby’s birth didn’t coincide with that time of year.
