Stark?

[name]Do[/name] you think Stark is usable as a middle name? The first names we are considering seriously are [name]Harry[/name]/[name]Harris[/name] or [name]Chase[/name] (a play on [name]Charles[/name])

Stark is a family name but I’m unsure about using it because of Iron [name]Man[/name] AKA [name]Tony[/name] Stark

Haha! [name]Tony[/name] Stark was my first thought. I’m very much into the Avengers right now, though, so I’m probably incredibly biased. My next thought was the similar [name]Julian[/name] Sark of J.J. Abrams’s Alias–a much less cool association, I think, personally. I would totally use Stark if it was a family name, I think a little boy would love sharing a name with Iron [name]Man[/name], though, haha.

I thought of the Starks in the Song of Ice and [name]Fire[/name] series (Game of Thrones). It’s kind go grim for me, but I like it.

I don’t think anyone would think anything about it, considering it’s a family name. Some names much more unusual than Stark end up in the middle spot sometimes. Plus I agree with the pp, I bet your son will enjoy sharing a name with Iron [name]Man[/name], at least when he’s younger. By the time he has grown into it, it won’t matter either way.

This. Then [name]Tony[/name] Stark. It’s too surnamey for me but for a middle name it’s not so bad

For me I think of the word Stark and also the Aussie slang (I think) Starkers/Stark naked - as in not wearing any clothes!
I like the sound of Stark and the almost unexpected K at the end is a favourite of mine (I love [name]Anouk[/name] on a girl)
I think if it were me I could not use the name but because for you it has family significance so go for it!

I’m an Aussie so that did occur to me to but it didn’t bother me as much at the link with Iron man! haha!

Thank you for all the opinions so far! I would love to hear what more people think

I’m in the US and we use the phrase stark naked too, although not starker!
I had a friend with this surname, so I thought of her and then all of [name]Richard[/name] Starkey (i.e. [name]Ringo[/name] [name]Starr[/name]). I think it’s fine in the middle.
That said with [name]Chase[/name] it’s kind of an abrupt rhythm and the S’s bump into each other, although there are worse things than that.
Good luck!

My first thought was “stark naked.” However, any family name works well in the middle. As long as your last name isn’t Naked. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stark naked. Eddard Stark. [name]Tony[/name] Stark.

Not a fan of it, but if it’s important to you and you feel you must use it, then please do so in the middle.

I did think Iron [name]Man[/name], but I don’t think that’s neccessarily a bad thing at all. I’m such a sucker for family names!

That said, I’m not sure it works as well with the first names. It’s defitely rather abrupt with [name]Chase[/name]. Works great with [name]Harris[/name] (and you know how much I love [name]Harris[/name]! ;), but depending on your last name, it could sound very surname-y when all three names are used together. Think it just depends. If your ln rarely gets used as a fn, I’d absolutely go with [name]Harris[/name] Stark! Very sophisticated!

We have a very feminine surname, starting with R. I can’t think of anything it rhymes with but it ends in an ‘all’ sound. The only first name I am in love with is [name]Harris[/name] and my husband isn’t in love with it (he wants [name]Patrick[/name], which I don’t like with our surname)
The other name we had been considering was [name]Alexander[/name] but we ruled it out because I’m fussy about having 2 children with the same first initial. I really find boys names hard! I think our surname makes it harder. I change my mind about what I like every day but I know when I find the right name combination it will feel right

Stark is certainly usable as a middle name.

I thought [name]Tony[/name] Stark and [name]Nathan[/name] Stark (from SyFy show Eureka).
Apparently it’s a name writers like to give to brilliant scientific minds.
I’d say it makes for a great mn and also a great “alternative” last name for online presence for your son in the future. So on FB he’d be [name]Jonathan[/name] Stark and it would feel like a full name. It’s actually something I’ve been thinking about a bit lately - the need to remain visible online and yet keep a form of privacy.

This was my exact thought. The nerd in me loves it. I feel like it would be fine as a middle name, however I don’t think it pairs nicely in the middle spot. For example-- [name]Harry[/name] Stark [name]Thompson[/name]. It sounds like two last names rather than a first, middle, and last. I would test out the sound with your last name to see if you still like it.

I love it!
And as the mother of a 4 yr old boy - He would love to share any name with any Superhero. But if it’s a family name - all the better. As for Game of Thrones - while grim, they are the heroic family.
