Starting fr scratch.Cant find a name we love

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there!

so really struggling with a name for our first son. We already have a [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and I had my heart set on [name_m]Odin[/name_m] but finding myself unsure of it now. My husband and I have different taste. I like names like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Rafael[/name_m], [name_m]Ronaldo[/name_m] etc and he likes more common names like [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] etc. I really do not like names that are too popular. I am ok with traditional names and I dont like names that are too hipster/trendy either!

so far we agree on the following names:

[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] (very popular so would probably not use)
[name_m]Jake[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Odin[/name_m] (maybe too hipster?)
[name_u]Seth[/name_u] (I’m not quite sure)
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m] (its a maybe from my husband)

middle name will be [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] but could also be two middle names as does not go with all of the names nicely. I don’t mind two middle names! Please help us with any suggestions of names?

First off, I love your daughters name! [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] is one of my top contenders should I ever have a girl.

Secondly, I totally get it, boy names can be really hard.

Can you explain what you mean by “hipster?”

Here are some more ideas…

[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Olaf[/name_m]
[name_m]Armand[/name_m]
Lucilius
[name_u]Seneca[/name_u]

Good luck!

oh thank you, yes I love her name ([name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and suits her so so well- plus its not common where we are!

by hipster I mean very “trendy”, “groovy” , - to make it sound cool, made up names etc.

I actually like [name_m]Armand[/name_m]! I dont think my hubby will like it though! I will suggest it to be put on our list! thanks!

Straight away I loved [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] from your list because you get [name_m]Leo[/name_m] which is a handsome name that your husband would love as it’s in the same style as [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Odin[/name_m] and also [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. [name_m]Odin[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] doesn’t go however.

I love [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] - ‘[name_m]Leo[/name_m]’ I feel like with your daughter’s name bein longer, it makes sense to also have a longer name for your son.

[name_m]Rocco[/name_m] is a name I’ve really come to love but is getting quite hipster where I live.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! oh gosh if my husband would agree I would use [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] in a heartbeat! he said NO straight away! i [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]! my husband has a cousin named [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and said there is no way he would use it… so thats off the list unfortunately! :frowning:

I really like [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and I dont find it that hipster as it is quite a common name in other parts of the world. However, in MY part of the world I worry if its TOO unusual or a dogs name??? I reallly really like [name_m]Rocco[/name_m]! does it go with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] though? and with [name_m]Odin[/name_m] I worry about the same thing, is it too unusual or too hipster?

Although I love the name [name_m]Odin[/name_m], I don’t think it flows well with your middle name choice. [name_m]Odin[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] flows right into each other. So perhaps try looking for something that doesn’t end with an “n” sound?

Maybe:
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Alec[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Morris[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] | [name_m]Willem[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]

I like:
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Morris[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]

If you like [name_m]Odin[/name_m] have you considered [name_m]Oren[/name_m]/[name_m]Orrin[/name_m]? For some reason that name feels a bit more accessible to me. It seems on trend without being common or hipster (at least in my opinion!).

Good luck!

I looooove [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and the suggestion of [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]. I don’t think you should worry too much about a name being hipster if you really love it. Can you compromise on the middles? Maybe [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] ____ (a name he really likes).

Thank you. Yes I know some of teh names do not flow with [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], hence I dont mind a third middle to make it flow better and put Nathan in the third name spot. [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] is a family name so hence we are using it  I’ve looked at [name_m]Otis[/name_m] but Im not sure if I like it or not! my family are fr Scandinavia and the pronounciation for them would make it sound weird, although in english it sounds nice!

I really kinda like [name_m]Morris[/name_m] from your list! Thanks so much for your suggestions!

thanks for your input! I think [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] is just growing a bit on my hus=band, but at least it is not a NO!
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m] is a family name and yes we could always add a third name. Maybe [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] for example

I would also suggestion [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] as a compromise. It’s a pretty traditional name in that it’s been around and in the public mind for a very long time. At the same time, it certainly isn’t a top 10 name.

Serephina is gorgeous!

[name_m]Milo[/name_m] was the first thing I thought of. Some other ideas…

[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] (nick name [name_m]Eli[/name_m] might get hubby on board?)

I’m thinking that if you really want to find a name you both love, you might need to go either toward the exotic end of “normal” or the normal end of exotic. To be specific, [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a great suggestion. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Ozias[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Oz[/name_m] or [name_m]Ozzie[/name_m]? One of my favorites – could be perfect for you! Or [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. Or [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! Other exotic end of normal ideas: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Quinton[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]. And normal end of exotic: [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Enzo[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Teo[/name_m], [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m], [name_m]Anton[/name_m], [name_m]Marco[/name_m], [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_m]Raoul[/name_m].

oh thank you. A lot of the names you mentioned I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] but my hubby says no… damn him! he really doesnt like anything with the slightest latino twist! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Rafael[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_u]MIcah[/name_u]… [name_m]Anton[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u] are all names we cant use as they are already family members names. [name_m]Milo[/name_m] has been mentioned a lot but its not a name I like, reminds me of the drink. I think this will be a very difficult thing to find a name we agree on. Same case with our daughter! in fact [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] was the only name we could agree on. Thanks so much for your sufgeerstions, a few new names on there [name_m]Ive[/name_m] nots een!

Is there any way you can just use [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] as the first name since you both agree on it?

Some other ideas - depending on how popular the names are in your area:

[name_m]Mikael[/name_m] / [name_u]Michael[/name_u] with [name_f]Mikah[/name_f] / [name_u]Micah[/name_u] as the more commonly used nickname
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m] ([name_m]Josh[/name_m]) – based on the fact that you and your husband like longer names ending with “a”
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] ([name_m]Eli[/name_m])
[name_m]Leonard[/name_m] ([name_m]Leo[/name_m])
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

Would you consider using the more formal name [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and the nickname [name_u]Nat[/name_u], [name_m]Nate[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]? Another suggestion is the formal name [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] with the nickname [name_u]Nico[/name_u].

I actually really like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] and [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. I will have to ask my picky husband! great idea, thanks
