Stellan - is it too close to Stalin

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] is too close to Stalin?

No, I love [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]. I think it will be familiar enough to American ears (thanks to [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] Skarsgard) that no one will confuse it. Maybe try spelling it [name_m]StellEn[/name_m] if you are worried about how people will pronounce it.

It would be too close for me.

Nope. I’ve heard/seen the name several times throughout the last several years (thank to naming boards) and never once has anyone said anything about it being too close to Stalin (until now, I guess). So no, it’s not too close for me.

For me, it’s more similar to [name_f]Stella[/name_f] than Stalin. Written on the page, it just looks like the girls name [name_f]Stella[/name_f] with an “n” stuck on the end. I don’t think [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] and Stalin are pronounced the same way either.

I love the name [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]. A similarity to Stalin has never once occurred to me. If anything I think of [name_m]Kellen[/name_m]/[name_m]Kellan[/name_m]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f]/the word stellar…

No it is not too close to Stalin. I agree with @mischa that it is more close to [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
That being said I absolutely [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name, [name_f]Love[/name_f] love love.

NB I have been trying to comment on this page since yesterday.

Thank you all. I love [name_m]Stellan[/name_m].

I personally don’t think so and I love [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]. However, when I suggested it to my DH, he thought I said Stalin. He hadn’t heard [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] before so I told him about the name, but he vetoed it because he thought it was too close to Stalin.

I really like [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] too, and I hadn’t made the connection. I know a little [name_m]Lennon[/name_m] and that name does make me think of [name_m]Lenin[/name_m], but the pronunciation is much closer. I think the first syllable in [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] is different enough that it is not an issue for me.

Not at all. [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] is way cuter… I’d stay away from the moustache hipster-hype though

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t name your child [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]!! [name_m]Just[/name_m] kidding - my son is named [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] (I try to talk people out of using it because of my fear of it becoming popular). Sometimes my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] says “Stalin,” but she is a nut, so I wouldn’t count that. The only thing I find wrong with [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] is that I’m not sure I’ll ever find a name I love as much as I love his name, [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], for our second child. Other than that, it’s perfect

LOL

[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is very handsome and so adorable.

I love [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]. Never once made me think of Stalin until you mentioned it. I don’t think it is too close.
