Stephanie or Stephania/Stefania?

Looking to honor my stepdad [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]. I also love the meaning of the name (laurel crown) and the story of [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] from the Bible. Recently I found out that [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] is the name of a genus of flowers as well as the name of a comet.

[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] seems dated but is starting to grow on me.

I like [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] but I feel it may be too “princessy.” Also I am torn if I would want it pronounced [name_u]Stef[/name_u]-ahn-eeah or [name_u]Stef[/name_u]-ahn-ya

I think [name_f]Nia[/name_f] (Knee-ah) could be a good nickname for the first pronunciation and [name_f]Anya[/name_f] could be a cute nickname for the second pronunciation.

Which pronunciation do you prefer for [name_f]Stephania[/name_f]/Stefania

Any thoughts or ideas of other variants? Middle names would be [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is after my mom and [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] is after my dad ([name_u]Lee[/name_u] but prefer [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] for a girl)

The second pronunciation! It’s quite a beautiful variant to [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and really feels like it’s own name. I think I like it with the F [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] because with the PH I didn’t even notice the A ending at first. I just read it as [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. Also second pronunciation comes off as 3 syllables whereas first comes off as 4 and is more clunky.

Thank you! I was wondering if people would ready it as [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] with the [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] spelling.

My name is [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and I was named after my dad.
It was definitely more popular in the 80s but I think it could still work.

Stefania/Stephania is a lovely alternative. I think I would pronounce the first spelling stef-ahn-ya and the second stef-ahn-ee-a.
I like both! The nicknames [name_f]Anya[/name_f] and [name_f]Nia[/name_f] are very cute! [name_f]Effie[/name_f] could work too.

I like [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] pronounced [name_u]Stef[/name_u]-ahn-ya. I like how [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] looks, though. I will also mention that my computer wants to autocorrect [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] to [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] but it sees [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] as correct. It reminds me of the character [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] from Everybody Loves [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], which I don’t see as a bad thing.

I like [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. It is a little dated but that doesn’t bother me.

Of the pronunciations for [name_f]Stephania[/name_f], I think stef-ahn-eeah is very pretty.

I pronounce both of them the same unless I really try to make a difference. But overall, I prefer the [name_u]Stef[/name_u]-awn-ee-uh pronunciation best. And the [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] spelling. Not “too princess-y,” just the right amount. [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] flows really nicely.

I do honestly love [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. Very pretty name. However that being said, one of my best friends growing up was [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] and I went to school with a number of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]’s. It’s also the name of my nieces mom. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] I have met (including my nieces mom) have always been good associations though

Also I love the nickname [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as well! Thanks for the suggestion

I’d pronounce [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] as [name_u]Steph[/name_u]-ah-nee-uh.

Stefania has flair

Stefania from “[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]” is always the first thing that comes to my mind.

I love [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] for you!

As a [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], I am of course partial to the name, and I agree that I love the meaning and connection to St. [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]! I think it’s a beautiful name, royal in its own right, and I do love the idea of the nickname [name_f]Effie[/name_f]!

I’d like to think/hope it’s not TOO dated yet (I’ll admit it is a bit at the moment, but it’s actually older than the 80’s and I still think still usable/will make a comeback), but if you think it is, I would go with [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] pronounced “steh-FAWN-ya.” I think that is the simplest/most intuitive combo. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Anya[/name_f] or [name_f]Anja[/name_f] as a nickname for that, or [name_f]Effie[/name_f].

Best wishes to you!

Estefanía is a pretty common name in Spanish speaking countries, and we do the ‘ste-fah-KNEE-ah’ pronunciation.

Out of the two spellings I really like [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] as there’s something ethereal and lovely about Fs compared to PH like [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] vs [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I might be biased though as I’m surrounded by Estefanias.

I too prefer [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

I was thinking [name_f]Estefania[/name_f] as well. It’s still a possibility.

Thank you! The more I hear [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], I love it. It needs a comeback. I do like the sound of [name_f]Stefania[/name_f] though as well.

My sister is [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] nn [name_u]Steph[/name_u] so Incould see how it’s seem dated. Maybe [name_f]Stefani[/name_f] would seem less dated… would be a big [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] association. I’d say [name_f]Stephania[/name_f] as [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]- [name_m]Ah[/name_m]…
