So i was just wondering what you guys think of stereotyping names?
To me there are a few names out there that just scream slut/stripper, what are those names for you?
Also are there names you have that have been ruined by a person you know by that name?
for me slut/stripper names are:
[name]Bridget[/name]
Glitter
[name]Snow[/name]
[name]Frankie[/name]
[name]Dolly[/name]
[name]Kitty[/name]
and names that have been ruined are
[name]Tahnee[/name]
[name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Brooke[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Crystal[/name]
[name]Destiny[/name]
[name]Misty[/name]
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Angel[/name]
[name]Cherry[/name]
[name]Starr[/name]
[name]Jamie[/name]-lyn, [name]Tammy[/name]-lyn and other -lyn smoosh names
[name]Kaylee[/name]/lots of K names
Place names like [name]China[/name], [name]Aspen[/name], [name]Memphis[/name] etc
[name]Bridget[/name] as a stripper name?
Its so interesting to hear these! [name]Bridget[/name] for me is a studious, academic name along the lines of [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Winona[/name] etc.
[name]Kitty[/name], where I’m from, is an upper middle class name only, really…
I’m in the UK, and slightly ‘rough’ sounding names for me are:
For me the “trashy” sounding names are generally names that try to sound high class or “shiny”, like [name]Diamond[/name] or Sparkle. Also, a lot of virtue names like Innocence, [name]Destiny[/name], etc. Though there are a lot of exceptions… like [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Amber[/name] or [name]Pearl[/name] aren’t “trashy” to me, and neither are [name]Faith[/name] or [name]Hope[/name]. Not sure why I feel that way.
Some names that have been ruined or have become unusable because of people/places in my life:
[name]Nina[/name] (an ex’s ex that HATED me when I was dating her ex… quite a while after they broke up)
[name]Devin[/name] (ex bf)
[name]Evan[/name] (ex bf)
[name]Nicholas[/name] or any variation (ex bf, the one that dated [name]Nina[/name])
[name]Aria[/name] (used to work at a place with this name)
[name]Acacia[/name] (it’s also a fraternity that had a chapter at my college, not a bad association, just feels weird to name a kid that even though I like it a lot)
[name]Grant[/name] (he was the “smelly kid” in school, I think I’d like the name if it weren’t for that)
[name]Patrick[/name] (love the name but it’s my cousin’s ex husband’s name, wouldn’t want to remind her of him)
[name]Braden[/name] (TOO many kids with this or similar names, plus it rhymes with our friends’ son’s name)
Probably more but those are the ones I can think of right now!
I used to love the name David for a boy until I met one and he was a total jerk… now I can’t use it because he is still friends with some friends of mine (dated a friend of mine, they broke up, but a lot of my friends are still friends with him. He was always mean to me though…)
Other names ruined/unusable for me (most of these are people who were jerks or are people I had crushes on):
Anna (fake nice)
Eric (crush)
Logan (crush)
Mikal/Michael (fling)
Taylor (jerk)
Zach/Zachary (jerk)
Ben/Benjamin (ex)
Chelsea (jerk)
Alyssa (jerk)
Trent (jerk)
Joanna (fake nice)
Nancy (this girl just hated me and I never knew why, she also was a jerk and called me Dani when I told her I didn’t like it and that Diana is my name, I also didn’t like a Dani)
Dani/Danielle (fake nice)
I’d be careful labeling something as a “slutty” name. Their are a lot of children with these names and I’m sure their are berries with kids with these names. I’d hate to be told I gave my daughter a pornstar name. There’s a difference between not liking a name for personal associations and calling a name slutty.
[name]Just[/name] voicing my opinion. My niece is [name]Bridget[/name] and I know my [name]SIL[/name] would personally be hurt to see that.
Definitely. Some of the nicest girls I know are named [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name]. Besides, your name shouldn’t be what defines your character.
It might be fair to compile a list of names that sex workers adopt as pseudonyms and stage names and label those ‘stripper names’, but be very, very careful about it. Most in the sex industry (including strippers and porn actresses) do not choose to be there- the names they choose for themselves (or have chosen for them) while working there are also names given by loving parents to their daughters.
No woman is inherently worthless (which is what ‘slut’ implies), and especially not just based on the name her parents gave her…even if you would never disdain another woman or underestimate her competence and intelligence just based on her name, discussing this in theory is a bit troublesome. [name]Do[/name] you have an equivalent list of male ‘slut’ names?
Sorry to lecture, but I noticed that you’re young and might not have had the chance to consider this stuff before- it’s important!
I don’t like stereotyping a name. I may not like the name, but it is usually just because of the look or the sound. Plus, I assume that a lot of people who are in the porn industry have normal names and they don’t always have names that are considered trashy. Or at least I have seen normal names that have been brought up as being the name of a porn star. I would hate to know that my name or my DD’s name is on a list of trashy, slutty names. Of course, we all have opinions.
Btw: [name]Bridget[/name] is on my list for a future DD.
That’s so funny! For me those names (especially [name]Amber[/name], [name]Caitlyn[/name], and [name]Lexie[/name]) are the members of the cheer squad–the ditzy blondes who focus on boys and clothes. The opposite of ‘tough’.
I think the most ‘stereotypical’ names for me are the ‘country club’ style names–[name]Blake[/name], [name]Trent[/name], [name]Chad[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Lance[/name].
And of course there are a lot of names that I think are solely used by the African American community: [name]Nakisha[/name], [name]Shaniqua[/name], [name]Deshawn[/name], [name]Rashanda[/name], etc.
