Hi all ![]()
I feel like every other baby announcement I see features one of these two at the moment! And that got me thinking: what āboyishā nicknames might come next as stylish girl names?
Thereās already [name_f]Billie[/name_f], [name_f]Andie[/name_f], [name_m]Drew[/name_m], [name_m]Jamie[/name_m], and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] (and you might include [name_f]Indy[/name_f] in that?) but Iād be intrigued to know what others either you like or think could appeal to those who do like [name_f]Scottie[/name_f], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], and similar!
Iām thinking [name_m]Benny[/name_m] (or Bennie), [name_f]Davie[/name_f] (or [name_m]Davy[/name_m] and Davey), [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m], and [name_m]Kit[/name_m]? I also like [name_m]Artie[/name_m], [name_m]Herbie[/name_m], and [name_m]Mack[/name_m] too
But would love to hear some more ideas!!
Thanks for humouring me!!!
I can definitely see [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] and [name_m]Kit[/name_m]!
Maybe: [name_m]Tommy[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], [name_m]Louie[/name_m], Bo, [name_m]Iggy[/name_m], [name_m]Freddie[/name_m]? I recently read about the biologist [name_m]Toby[/name_m] Keirs and surprisingly quite enjoyed [name_m]Toby[/name_m] on a woman! Also [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] - I believe I saw an [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] āBertieā on Instagram once!
I see a lot of Stevie and Scottie announcements too! Iāve seen a lot of Charlie, Billie, Frankie, Ozzy/Ozzie, Indie/Indy as well.
I think Benny/Bennie, Davy/Davie, Tommy/Tommie Louie, Lenny/Lennie, Robbie, Ronnie, Wes, Ollie, Vinny/Vinnie, Georgie, Bobbi/Bobbie, Rickie, Max, Teddy/Teddie, Johnnie, Audie, Clay could all become trending for girls.
I thought of some more that I could see moving towards girls Marky/Markie, Joey, Cal, Willie, Mikey, Jimmy/Jimmie, Archie, Reggie, Sully/Sullie, and Auggie.
[name_f]Bennie[/name_f], [name_f]Davie[/name_f], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m], and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] totally feel like they could come next! I especially love the idea of [name_m]Davy[/name_m] for a girl, and I grew up with a girl called [name_f]Bennie[/name_f] and it suited her really well.
[name_m]Other[/name_m] ideas I can see are [name_m]Reggie[/name_m], [name_f]Lennie[/name_f], or [name_m]Marty[/name_m] / [name_f]Martie[/name_f]? I feel like [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] and [name_f]Scottie[/name_f] both have a more retro vibe as masculine names which these names share.
In a slightly different style, [name_m]Scout[/name_m] feels like the natural third name with [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] and [name_f]Scottie[/name_f].
I am not brave enough to make predictions, but some boyish(?) nicknames that I enjoy for anyone are [name_m]Toby[/name_m], [name_m]Alfie[/name_m], [name_m]Sebbie[/name_m], [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], and [name_m]Percy[/name_m]!
[name_m]Lemmy[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m] or [name_m]Jules[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and [name_m]Nico[/name_m] also come to mind.
[name_m]Can[/name_m] totally see [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m], and [name_m]Kit[/name_m]!
Agree with previous suggestions of [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] (for a while, before I was on nameberry, my baby name plan was simply āBertie whatever the genderā!), [name_m]Max[/name_m] (Stranger Things could encourage this?), and [name_m]Percy[/name_m] (or Persy, if short for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - I knew one of these whoād be in her early 20s now). I looove Freddie-short-for-Winifred and Leo-short-for-Leonora so would be happy to see them catch on too. [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] on a girl is so fun (prefer this spelling to [name_f]Teddi[/name_f] like the one on real housewivesā¦).
[name_m]Other[/name_m] ideas: with [name_m]The[/name_m] Devil Wears Prada 2 perhaps more people will be inspired to use [name_f]Andie[/name_f]?
Maybe [name_m]Monty[/name_m], or [name_m]Ollie[/name_m] (seems a natural step from Olivia?)
Iām not sure either. This style isnāt popular where I am.
I think [name_f]Frankie[/name_f], [name_m]Max[/name_m], and [name_m]Kit[/name_m] are already halfway there. [name_f]Frankie[/name_f] and [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] seem particularly well matched to me.
I could see [name_m]Alfie[/name_m] and [name_m]Davy[/name_m] crossing over, though I think they have the disadvantage of not having a popular feminine full name like [name_f]Frankie[/name_f] āFrancesā, [name_m]Max[/name_m] āMaxineā, or [name_m]Kit[/name_m] āChristinaā. [name_m]Even[/name_m] when the name is used as a full name, I feel like thereās more chance a nickname will cross over when there is a feminine full name in mind.
Nicknames Iād like to see cross over more widely: [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], [name_m]Louie[/name_m], and [name_f]Georgie[/name_f].
definitely Georgie and Frankie! everyoneās already made some great suggestions so I donāt really have more to add.
edit: I know I said I didnāt have any suggestions but I remembered that I knew someone named Gilbert āGillyā, and I think thatād be a sweet name for a girl!
Last year I actually met a mom with three kids, the oldest (boy) Iām pretty sure was [name_m]Steven[/name_m], then two girls Sc0ttie & Sp3ncer! I thought that was a pretty fun sibset. & I totally agree with you about [name_m]Benny[/name_m] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], there is an influencer family on yt whose daughterās name is [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], and I love it.
I wonder if [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a girl will ever really catch on - I think she could stand alone as a girlās name, or maybe short for [name_f]Leona[/name_f]?
I really love boys nicknames for girly full names - a perfect example for me is [name_f]Frankie[/name_f] for [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. Another example is my grandmother in law whoās name is [name_f]Martha[/name_f] but goes by [name_m]Marty[/name_m]. [name_m]Marty[/name_m] or [name_f]Martie[/name_f] could go with [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] and [name_f]Scottie[/name_f].
I agree with all the ones youāve said! ive also seen a few girls online lately called Oli/Ollie. I presume its as a nn for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but I feel like it could become popular as a full name for girls!
I could see [name_f]Jordie[/name_f] getting popular alongside [name_m]James[/name_m] for a girl from [name_m]Ryan[/name_m] Reynoldās daughter (even though that was a whole ago)
I have definitely also seen lots of [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], [name_f]Scottie[/name_f], [name_f]Frankie[/name_f] and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] announcements online, I think its primarily a trend in [name_f]America[/name_f] but wouldnāt be surprised if it starts trending in [name_m]Australia[/name_m] as well. I do actually know a woman in her 40s named [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]. I know [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_f]Noa[/name_f], [name_m]Rory[/name_m] and [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] have been used for girls for a while now as well and have a similar vibe.
I think there are lots of more masculine names that people change the y ending to an i or ie to make it more feminine that have been getting more popular like: Nicky/Nikki, Corey/Cori, Lenny/Leni, Danny/Dani
Some other ideas: [name_m]Ronnie[/name_m], [name_m]Casey[/name_m], [name_m]Ari[/name_m], [name_m]Joey[/name_m], [name_m]Bobby[/name_m], [name_m]Teddy[/name_m]
I met a girl named [name_f]Benny[/name] once (would be around 17 now). I think [name_f]Frankie[/name] is pretty established, and Iāve met a few girls called [name_f]Leni[/name]. [name_f]Remy[/name] leans pretty masc to me (the only ones Iāve met have been boys) but it seems like itās getting popular for girls (not sure if you would consider it āboyishā or just unisex though). I think [name_f]Georgie[/name] is pretty popular for girls but I donāt know of any who are ājustā [name_f]Georgie[/name] (mostly [name_f]Georgia[/name] where I am). Also [name_f]Max[/name] and [name_f]Alex[/name].
[name_m]Davy[/name_m] (or Daivy)!!!
[name_m]Wiley[/name_m], [name_m]Tuck[/name_m], [name_m]Puck[/name_m], [name_m]Poe[/name_m], [name_m]Pip[/name_m], [name_m]Gus[/name_m], [name_m]Reggie[/name_m], [name_m]Toby[/name_m], [name_m]Joey[/name_m], [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], [name_m]Grady[/name_m], [name_f]Georgie[/name_f], [name_f]Frankie[/name_f], [name_m]Kirby[/name_m], [name_f]Andie[/name_f], [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Cuddy[/name_m], [name_m]Jax[/name_m], [name_f]Winn[/name_f], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], [name_m]Ori[/name_m], [name_m]Vinnie[/name_m], [name_m]Johnny[/name_m], Dani/Danny, [name_m]Marty[/name_m], [name_f]Ozzie[/name_f], [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], [name_m]Freddie[/name_m], [name_f]Tenny[/name_f], [name_m]Monty[/name_m], [name_m]Woody[/name_m], [name_m]Cal[/name_m], [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], Perry/Perrie, [name_m]Percy[/name_m], [name_m]Rudy[/name_m], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_m]Augie[/name_m], [name_m]Jordy[/name_m], [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], [name_f]Moe[/name_f], [name_m]Link[/name_m], [name_m]Pim[/name_m], [name_m]Beau[/name_m], [name_m]Cash[/name_m], [name_m]Rocky[/name_m], Toni/Tony
I am not a fan of [name_f]Scottie[/name_f], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], [name_f]Frankie[/name_f], [name_f]Billie[/name_f] or [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] for girls or [name_f]Mikey[/name_f] - I donāt like the sound or feel of these (a bit honky) but then Iām also background bummed that little boys arenāt [name_f]Janie[/name_f] & [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] etc.
I prefer [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] - and [name_m]Ollie[/name_m] & [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] - as nicknames. Somehow [name_f]Sammy[/name_f] gets through for me. I also just prefer Franny/ [name_f]Francie[/name_f] for Frances/ [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (or other nnās for Francesca).
I do like & much prefer your more zippy suggestions of [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] & [name_m]Kit[/name_m]. [name_m]Percy[/name_m], [name_f]Perrie[/name_f], [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_m]Remy[/name_m], [name_m]Jules[/name_m], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_m]Jett[/name_m], [name_m]Rafe[/name_m] are in same category. These donāt seem so cute & squishy/honky to me as a lot of these boy nicknames going around for girls. Yes, aware am a kook. ![]()
I have a few names like these (including Scottie!) on my long, long list ā though, Iāve realized that I think I like them more for others than for myself!
I also love [name_m]Reggie[/name_m], [name_m]Louie[/name_m], [name_f]Kennie[/name_f], [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], and [name_m]Richie[/name_m]!
@planetnames Yes, Iāve seen [name_f]Albertine[/name_f] āBertieā ā so cute! [name_m]Toby[/name_m], Bo, [name_m]Iggy[/name_m], [name_m]Freddie[/name_m], and [name_m]Max[/name_m] are great ![]()
@lululemonmee yeah, Iāve met [name_m]Charlies[/name_m], Frankies and Indies ā one [name_f]Billie[/name_f] too! And a [name_f]Bobbie[/name_f]!
Ooh, [name_f]Audie[/name_f] and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] are great ā as is [name_m]Archie[/name_m] ā there was a female character in a show I used to watch called [name_m]Archie[/name_m]! Also [name_m]Auggie[/name_m], [name_m]Cal[/name_m] and [name_m]Sully[/name_m]! [name_m]Willie[/name_m] wouldnāt work where I am but [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] maybe?
@EagleEyes [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Bennie[/name_f], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] ā and [name_f]Lennie[/name_f] and [name_f]Martie[/name_f] ā I knew a girl called [name_f]Martie[/name_f] growing up! And yes to [name_m]Scout[/name_m] ā [name_f]Scottie[/name_f], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], [name_m]Scout[/name_m] and [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] too!!
@Demoiselle yes, I donāt love the phrase āboyishā but I feel like itās the quickest way to convey the vibe ā that itās different to unisex or gender neutral names?
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Percy[/name_m], [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], [name_m]Toby[/name_m], and [name_m]Sebbie[/name_m]! And [name_m]Jude[/name_m] ā I know a girl called [name_m]Jude[/name_m] ![]()
@persephonescrown [name_m]Bertie[/name_m] is so charming ā and yes to [name_m]Max[/name_m] ā the Stranger Things character could make it plausible ā Iāve seen a few Maxines? Iāve known a [name_f]Persey[/name_f] (short for Persephone!) [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is so cool too.
Monty!! Made me think of [name_m]Jonty[/name_m] too ā a bit like [name_f]Joni[/name_f]
@southern.maple I donāt think itās quite caught on where I am either ā Iāve met [name_m]Charlies[/name_m], [name_m]Jamies[/name_m], Frankies and Billies, but that seems just slightly different to [name_f]Scottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]?
@FreyByTheWay Thatās a good point about not having the popular feminine name link ā I guess thatās why [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] and [name_m]Louie[/name_m] could work (Georgia / [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] / [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], Louella), or [name_m]Otto[/name_m] (Charlotte, Ottilie), and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] (Theodora, [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], Edith?)
I guess thereās [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] which are āfamiliar but rareā, but yeah - good point!
@silver.magnolia [name_m]Gilly[/name_m] for a girl is cute! though I wonder if it would get pronounced [name_f]Jilly[/name_f]?
@rosajune that is such a fun set! I thought Iād seen an [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] on IG too! It is so cool! [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a girl ā maybe because Iāve got a character called [name_m]Lio[/name_m] ![]()
@EpitomeofGrace I think something like [name_f]Martha[/name_f] āMartyā and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] āFrankieā give you the best of both!
@sofimillis Iāve seen [name_m]Ollie[/name_m] and [name_m]Oli[/name_m] too - probably for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as you say ā or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]! But as a stand alone, its rhyme with [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], and [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] might help it catch on
@Livlikesnames I do like [name_f]Jordie[/name_f] a lot ā such a cool sound
@RadioactiveSquid [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_m]Rory[/name_m], [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] and [name_f]Noa[/name_f] are all great! I think thatās what adds to the appeal of [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] ā itās got a hint of retro too. [name_m]You[/name_m] mentioning Danny/Dani and Nicky/Nikki makes me wonder if some of those now-slightly-dated choices like [name_f]Terri[/name_f], [name_f]Toni[/name_f], [name_f]Gerri[/name_f], and [name_f]Jorie[/name_f] might see a bit of a resurgence?
Iāve met a girl called [name_f]Bobbie[/name_f]! And can see [name_m]Teddy[/name_m], [name_m]Ari[/name_m], [name_m]Ronnie[/name_m], and [name_m]Joey[/name_m] too! Funnily enough, most of the Caseys Iāve met have been girls!
@The_Bookwyrm [name_f]Frankie[/name_f] is well-established where I am too and Iāve met a [name_f]Leni[/name_f], I think. So cool youāve met as [name_m]Benny[/name_m] though!
Iāve met a few Georgies here in the UK ā mostly Georgia/inas but one [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] (sister was Gr.acie)
@shanade213 Ooh, great ideas ā I have met a [name_m]Pip[/name_m] and a [name_f]Winn[/name_f]! [name_m]Can[/name_m] see [name_m]Poe[/name_m], [name_m]Toby[/name_m], [name_m]Reggie[/name_m], [name_m]Augie[/name_m], [name_m]Rudy[/name_m], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_m]Beau[/name_m], [name_m]Link[/name_m], [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], [name_f]Moe[/name_f], [name_m]Rocky[/name_m], [name_m]Cal[/name_m], [name_f]Vennie[/name_f], and [name_m]Jax[/name_m] too
@EloiseT thatās fair ā can understand why they wouldnāt appeal to all! [name_f]Janie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] for boys are very charming though ā never thought of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] before!
I do enjoy [name_m]Percy[/name_m] (I knew a Persey), [name_f]Perrie[/name_f], [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], and [name_m]Jett[/name_m]! Iāve encountered a [name_m]Raffie[/name_m] too!
@SparkleNinja18 I think Iām in the same boat with a lot of these ā with a few exceptions! [name_f]Kennie[/name_f] and [name_m]Richie[/name_m] are cool ![]()
I would lose it if I met a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] called āOttoā, how cute!
