Stick with the same name?

Hello everyone. I’m doing this post for a friend. My friend was born E1le (E1le-e) 0phelia and many years later her mother changed pronounciation of her first as just ‘L’. She asked me today if she should legally change it back to the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] pronounciation or not. I said that it was up to her but she was desperate for answers, I said maybe still go by the E1le pronounciation and go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname.

Apart from that I’m super confused for her.
I would love your opinion of what she should do thank you

Honestly I’d stick with the ‘L’ but use the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. It’s the easiest option and involves no paperwork!

Also [name_f]El[/name_f]!e reminds me of Legally Blonde which I think is a pretty cool link :stuck_out_tongue:

So her mom called her by the nickname “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” but her legal name has always been “L,” and when she got older her mother began calling her by her actual name and not a nickname?

You can’t legally change the pronunciation of a name, so I’m thinking this is pretty simple. Her name is “L,” she can go by that, or go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], which is a logical pet name, whichever she prefers.

I’d say just go by whatever she wants. If she likes [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] better go by that or if now that’s shes older she likes [name_f]Elle[/name_f], just go by that.

Depends on whether having her name legally changed would be worth the cost and hassle for her. I know in some countries getting your name changed can be very expensive.

She could always keep [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as her legal name and use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname.
