STILL struggling on names :(

Still struggling on our girls name…im after opinions on verity, im reading a brill book where this is a blokes name but I really quite like it is it awful? Also what nn? I hate vera and very would be odd…also wondering about mimi (mim for nn) id prounouce it mee mee?
I was sold on elowen but my hubby keeps saying ellie for short and seen as his other dd is shelly that would be a bit odd. Thanks in advance  x

[name_f]Verity[/name_f], hmm. I’m personally not a fan of virtue names but I do think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] has a lovely sound.
It does feel more feminine than masculine to me but virtue names are basically unisex (even though they aren’t used equally for each gender).
I could see Itsy as a nickname for [name_f]Verity[/name_f] but can’t think of any others.
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f] sounds like a pet name. Not actually for a pet but it’s even cuter than just a nickname for me.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is very pretty, too. I don’t think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would be a massive problem since it would only be a nickname.
If you had boys name [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] their nicknames could rhyme as well ([name_u]Freddie[/name_u] & [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]) but you could always switch back to their full names if it’s too much for you. The same could be done with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

[name_f]Verity[/name_f] is a great name! I would totally use it if you want to.

Combo ideas:

[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]

Other ideas:

Veritas
[name_f]Verena[/name_f]
[name_f]Amity[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f]
[name_f]Celestine[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]

No on [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] from me. It’s a dog’s name or a nickname not a full name. It’s too flimsy.

I have a soft spot for [name_f]Verity[/name_f]. Seemingly not many other people around me do though- not sure why.
If I had a [name_f]Verity[/name_f] I wouldn’t shorten it as I like the whole name.

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is delightful too. I like Elowyn (yes, I know Y is the masculine etc etc…) but I adore the idea of the nn [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] or [name_f]Wynnie[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Verity[/name_f]'s awful at all. It’s nice (and more common for girls.) I don’t really think you need a nickname at all, though Very/Veri isn’t that bad.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Verity[/name_f] or as a stand alone name? Either way I wouldn’t recommend it. But [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]/[name_f]Mim[/name_f] could be short for [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f]…

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is fine on it’s own. If you’d like other options- I’ve heard Low and [name_f]Enna[/name_f] work as NNs. [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask why your husband says [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] when he already has a [name_u]Shelley[/name_u]? Does he like it or is he trying to put you off?!

Elowyn doesn’t have any gender actually; it’s a misspelling. You’re thinking of Welsh

[name_f]Verity[/name_f] is nice enough, though [name_f]Vera[/name_f] seems like the most obvious and frankly unavoidable nickname, so if you for some reason strongly dislike it, that might be a concern.
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f] feels very nicknamey.
I adore [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]; [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] seems like a big of a stretch in terms of a nickname. [name_f]Lolo[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], etc. could work.

I think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] is very pretty! No nickname is needed. I personally dislike picking a pretty name like this and never using it.

I love [name_f]Verity[/name_f] for these reasons.

  1. It has a great meaning.
  2. It’s a Puritan virtue name with a long history of usage (girls are the majority).
  3. It has a spunky, energetic sound that evokes happiness and joy!

[name_f]Irie[/name_f], Itty or Itsy would be cute nickname options.

I love [name_f]Verity[/name_f]! If you don’t like the obvious nn’s, you can always just call her “V.” I know of a couple [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]'s who go by “V” because they don’t like [name_f]Vicki[/name_f] or [name_f]Tori[/name_f] as nn’s. However, I adore [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]! I think your husband calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] won’t be a huge problem if he only calls her that at home. It could be his special nn for her.

Thanks for your reply guys  . [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is stuck on the name emmy which I dont mind but isnt it for me, I think he is trying to put me off elowen but he says he likes it, he doesnt have a problem with ellie and in fact wanted it for our little girl, indie, but I vetoed it as it was too close in my head to his first dds name. He has a like of short names ending in a y I think lol. I do dearly love elowen I may just have strong words about using ellie with him as he likes it too. Im keeping verity in reserve I think as I do love love that name too.
Thanks guys xx
