Stop the accidental theme or continue?

Hypothetical Scenario

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] SO and I have agreed on the following names: [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] for boys and [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

If we ended up with 3 boys and named them [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] then had #4[name_f][/name_f], what would we name #4[name_f][/name_f]? If it’s a girl, we would most likely go with [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. We are a bit stuck on #4[name_f][/name_f] if it was a boy. [name_f]Do[/name_f] we choose another S name or stop the theme with a different name?

[name_f][/name_f]

The names we have chosen are names we love and agree on. We didn’t choose them just because they all start with a S. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Normally I’d say don’t stick to a theme, but this one is just too matchy. The thing is, something like [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m], [name_m]Spencer[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] would be more okay to me. But [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] are incredibly[name_f][/name_f] matchy (I’d mishear [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] for [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] and vice versa a lot) because they don’t just share the S initial. They all share the S initial, followed by a vowel, and they all end in -n, after another vowel. Because they’re so samey I think a fourth son would stand out incredibly if he didn’t match at least a bit, I wouldn’t do it. I’d stick to S names and do [name_m]Stefan[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Sabin[/name_m], [name_f]Sasha[/name_f], [name_f]Sage[/name_f], [name_m]Sorrel[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Sawyer[/name_m], [name_m]Sterling[/name_m]

Since the names are all really similar to begin with, it would definitely feel weird to not continue it with another S name!

I should also add that we would plan to use the nicknames [name_m]Sol[/name_m] for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], SJ or [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] for [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Sully[/name_m] or [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] for [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

I was thinking I would have to keep the theme going as well but wanted to hear others thoughts. I also felt like [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] was a little too out there compared to the other names.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ll take suggestions for S names :grinning:

I definitely agree with everything @tallemaja[name_f][/name_f] and @Maria_Bennett[name_f][/name_f] said, so I’ll just suggest some more S names and hopefully there are some you like!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sherman[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Saxon[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sheldon[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Stanton[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Steven[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Sander[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sydney[/name_f] / [name_m]Sidney[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Spencer[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sirius[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Shawn[/name_m] / [name_m]Sean[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Stanley[/name_m] / [name_m]Stanford[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sylvester[/name_m]

I think the fact [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] all start with S, end in -n and have the S sound would make [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] stand out, but its not necessary that you have to use an S name. It could cause some “why am i the odd one out?” [name_m]Or[/name_m] “why does he get a special name?” But i dont think its too big a deal.

[name_f][/name_f]

Would you consider swapping on of the S names with [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]? So youd have, say, [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] and [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m], so its broken up?

[name_f][/name_f]

Some S names, in case:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sholto[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Sennan
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sage[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Selwyn[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sinclair[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sinjin[/name_m]

I’ll add a vote for [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] here

[name_f][/name_f]

While the S names are a strong theme, I don’t think [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] is too far off actually, every other letter is also part of the other boys’ names, so I think there’s a decent tie if you love it and wish to use it. Did you have any nickname ideas for him as well?

I know this is hypothetical, but still wanted to throw this out there. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name is [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] and when I introduce him people think I said [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] much more often than I thought would happen. So if you have siblings named [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] it’s fairly likely that it would get very confusing who you’re actually talking about.

To answer your question, I’d stick with the S theme at that point! Having 3 S names and having the fourth be something different feels off to me. I’d stick with it!
