Hello all! I’m looking for a name reminiscent of my favorite weather, which is to say a thunderstorm - but thunderstorm seems perhaps a bit much (knowing me I’ll probably put in in my GP list at some point anyway) but I’m not completely and utterly sold on [name_u]Storm[/name_u] either (and I do know some people prefer it as a boy name, but I’m looking for a girl name.)
I want the connection to be something tangible, but other word names like [name_m]Typhoon[/name_m] or [name_f]Hurricane[/name_f] aren’t what I’m looking for either (though if you can think of a different vibe of word name feel free to suggest!) I’d love to see what NB comes up with!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Torvi[/name_f]? It’s a feminine version of [name_m]Thor[/name_m], from the Norse word for thunder I also like [name_f]Stormi[/name_f] as a more girly alternative to [name_u]Storm[/name_u]
The first thing coming to mind is [name_u]Tempest[/name_u] which means ‘a violent windy storm’.
[name_f]Audra[/name_f] (‘storm’)
[name_u]Indra[/name_u]/Indira (‘possessing drops of rain’)
[name_f]Aella[/name_f] ('storm wind/whirlwind’)
[name_f]Reva[/name_f] (‘rain’)
[name_f]Talia[/name_f] (‘rain from heaven’)
[name_f]Mistral[/name_f] (wind that sweeps over the Alps)
[name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] (‘west wind’)
[name_f]Varsha[/name_f] (‘the rainy season’)
[name_f]Nephele[/name_f] (nymph of clouds)
[name_f]Thora[/name_f] (goddess of [name_u]Thunder[/name_u])
[name_f]Era[/name_f] (‘wind’)
Words like [name_u]Storm[/name_u] to trampoline off (I know you aren’t looking for more word names but I thought they might spark an idea!)
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_f]Lightning[/name_f]
[name_u]Snow[/name_u]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_u]Glacier[/name_u]
Snowflake
[name_f]Breeze[/name_f]
[name_u]Thunder[/name_u]
[name_u]Cloud[/name_u]
Alpine
Snowstorm
[name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f]
[name_f]Tundra[/name_f]
Mist
Hollow
[name_f]Delta[/name_f]
[name_f]Icy[/name_f]
[name_f]Valley[/name_f]
I really like Storm as a middle name for girls. I think you could do that to reach the stormy feel if you can’t find a first name that grabs you.
I like [name_f]Stormy[/name_f] better.
I would suggest Thundera which might sound a bit like a pulp comic-book hero. But this kid is gonna be born in the 2020’s do rules even apply anymore?
Thora is the girl version of [name_m]Thor[/name_m] who is the god of [name_u]Thunder[/name_u] too.
Perhaps [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] / [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] after [name_m]Jove[/name_m]/Jupiter (god of thunder and lightning). Or even [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m]… I could see it on a girl.
@floatinthesky [name_f]Torvi[/name_f] and [name_f]Stormi[/name_f] are both wonderful options!
@alatari I’m loving [name_f]Talia[/name_f], [name_f]Mistral[/name_f]/Mist, and Hollow!
@18_25 I do really like [name_f]Stormy[/name_f] too! Luckily (oh sorry I should have clarified) I’m not pregnant so this is all for my list rather than a real child, so rules especially don’t have to apply - Thundera is super cool!
@ceryle [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] and [name_f]Raina[/name_f] are beautiful options! [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] would be really cool too!
I think [name_u]Storm[/name_u] is a bold choice and it’s not for me personally but I can appreciate it for someone else.
When I think of storms [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] and [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] come to mind.
Moon was the only one not already suggested that I could think of. It might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but it could work nicely with a sibset.
Tempest is my absolute favorite but I didn’t see Corentine here. I prefer [name_m]Corentin[/name_m] on a boy but it is still a nice option, especially in the [name_f]English[/name_f]-speaking context.
