Struggling to decide help needed

Hello berry’s. I have managed to condense my short list to two names but I am really struggling to decide which one I prefer. I’ve been so consumed trying to make a decision that baby name anxiety is creeping in and I’m nervous about making the wrong decision. I’m hoping that reading your thoughts might help me come to some conclusion. The names I am trying to decide between are
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f].
I find it hard making decisions generally and naming a baby is a huge thing. If you could please let me know which one you prefer and why as this will really help me. Thank you x

Congratulations!

I personally prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I love the whimsical literary connection that it has and it’s pretty without feeling frilly. If you love them both though it might be best to wait and see which one feels right for her when she’s born

I have a question: [name_f]Do[/name_f] you generally prefer names that are more formal or more playful? And if we extend that to life, do you have a more elegant vibe, or a more laid back one? Personally, I think both names are beautiful but if you like sophistication, I would choose [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and if you like fun, I would choose [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. Also, like @rhodes2nowhere said, if this doesn’t work, you can see how you feel when she’s born

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favourite but both are lovely. I agree with @rhodes2nowhere and when you meet her you may just know which name suits her best.

Good news is that you can’t make a bad choice between these two names :joy: Id say take a bit to not think about names to let your brain cool off. [name_u]Or[/name_u] only look at other names for a while without the pressure of choosing “the one”

Anyway here are my preferences:

While I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and consider it pretty and classic, it feels very tidy to me and is sooo [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in wonderland. Also it has “lice” in it which I know is a stupid thing to even think about but I do. I wouldnt think about this if I met an [name_f]Alice[/name_f], only when I really dissect my feelings about the name.

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is really lovely and classic too. I love the nickname [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]. I love the connection to the [name_u]Christian[/name_u] concept of divine grace. Its a perfect simple name.

What do you love about these names? Maybe that can help you tease them apart.

I think waiting to choose the name until you see her works for some people but I know that I do not want to do that since I make arbitrary decisions when under stress :joy:

I love the sound and the look of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! Also the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in wonderland connection as well as the nickname Lissy/Lizzie!

That’s so interesting because to me they have the exact opposite vibe! Alice is lively and playful while Grace feels more reserved…

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is sweet and whimsical. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is strong and down-to-earth. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favorite of the two but you can’t go wrong with either

Firstly congratulations :partying_face::partying_face:

Honestly I found naming my daughter so so hard you sound how I sounded when I was naming. Like you I’m very indecisive I actually hate making decisions and making the decision of naming my daughter was soooo hard! I think what helped me finalising her name was making a pros & cons list this really highlighted my love for her name over other options as well as consulting the berries. Have you done a pros & cons list?

So my personal favourite is [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I absolutely love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] such a beautiful virtue choice. She feels elegant, timeless and sophisticated. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is so beautiful. I love the connection to the [name_u]Christian[/name_u] concept of divine grace that connotation is just beautiful. I also love [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] such a sweet nickname.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is lovely so if [name_f]Alice[/name_f] sparkles more to you then your choosing a very nice name it’s just for me [name_f]Grace[/name_f] outshines [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

[name_u]Will[/name_u] your daughter have a middle name? Does her middle name work better with one of your options? Also would you consider having two middle names so you don’t have to loose a name you love? For example [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]?

Going back to my naming my daughter I wanted to name her before she was born I just wanted her name finalised. But still the idea of using her middle name as her first was floating around in my mind so I did contemplate changing my finalised name. But when she was born she looked like the finalised name. Maybe you could do something similar? [name_m]Just[/name_m] wait & see what name she looks more like?

Anyways good luck with your naming journey!

I prefer [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. It’s sleek and elegant and the nickname [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] is just the sweetest!

I agree with @cactusgram. I know of a lot of Grace’s, so while Grace is certainly a solid name I’d consider, I don’t see it as something that could be special to me because it’s so popular. As for Alice I think the name is perfect as it feels very magical and a bit unique. :purple_heart:

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are both gorgeous, elegant choices! I would say [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a bit more unusual so if that is a factor for you I’d go with that one. But honestly, don’t worry too much, because you can’t go wrong with either!

Here are some thoughts from a girl named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (: I have always loved my name, and I would say I slightly prefer it over [name_f]Alice[/name_f], though I do really love that name as well! Here are things I think about my name based on my experience!

  1. There are not very many nicknames, its pretty much just Gracie/Gracey (although I have known Graces to go by G, [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or Gray). If nicknames are important to you, definitely consider that! I have never had one, except some older adults call me [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], which I don’t really like, and also basically all little kids call me [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], which I don’t mind. I always kinda wished I had a nickname but its never been a huge deal
  2. I was named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] in 1999 when it was near the height of its popularity. There were 3 other Graces in my class in highschool, plus several others in other grades. This wasn’t particularly annoying or anything but is something to consider as the name is sort of re-entering that level of popularity in recent years (:
  3. I don’t know if any other Graces -or anyone with virtue names- have experience this but people often comment on the fact that my name is a virtue name. They will make remarks about me being graceful or not, make an “Amazing Grace” comment, or ask if my middle name is “Hope” or “Faith”. Again, this has never really bothered me as it never seems mean spirited, but more to consider.

I would say of the two, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has more nickname options, and is less popular, while [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is more “short and sweet” and is more likely to have some name twins. They both have an old fashioned vibe to me, with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] feeling a little more current.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any middle names picked? You could also weigh that in your decision. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] could be super cute! Honestly, I think you can’t go wrong with either. They are both great choices, and do have similar vibes as well! Good luck (: (and sorry if this was long/rambling lol)

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] gets my vote :two_hearts:

You’d be safe with either name. I personally dislike [name_f]Grace[/name_f], because of bad associations but also because I find it a little dull and over-done. I’ve lost count of the number of Grace’s I’ve taught and none of them have been nice children. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] however is still classic but it has more of a vintage vibe and is definitely not boring. I don’t think it’s as common as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] either, it feels more timeless and has more elegance about it. Plus I love the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland connection, that’s never not going to be cute :blossom:

I think it’s safe to say you have narrowed it down to two beautiful names ! There is no shame in bringing both names for when you meet the baby !

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal naming style would probably land me more in the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Camp . I love names with lots of nickname potential

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is also gorgeous- but a little more popular in my personal friend circles

There is no wrong answer ! Congratulations on your baby !

I prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It has a storybook quality I love and feels whimsical and elegant at the same time. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a timeless, lovely choice too though so you can’t really go wrong but [name_f]Alice[/name_f] just feels a little more interesting and a little less commonly used to me.

I echo the PP who said that you can feel confident that there are no wrong choices here - both are really such lovely, well-accepted names. Both are classic, both are easy to spell and pronounce. They also have a very similar vibe to me.

If one sounds a lot better with the surname I’d be influenced by that. I’d also be tempted to meet her and see.

However, to pin me down, I’d probably go with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as it has been less used and feels fresh and modern (despite being very old). Though there’s really nothing in it!

I vastly prefer [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s vintage but relatively underutilized in comparison to a lot of names right now. This also gives it some gravitas while the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland connection makes it still feel youthful and fun.

I personally find [name_f]Grace[/name_f] pretty boring and overdone. I’m also not a fan of the fact that lots of people I know will jokingly refer to someone as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] when they’re particularly clumsy.
