Jack is a family name and all 3 middles are family names to some extent.
Callum wasn’t my husband’s favorite because he feels it’s hard to say. The “um” ending isn’t the most familiar in American English vs the UK for example. We’re also very hesitant with having to correct the pronunciation and spelling of Rhys (we only like the traditional welsh spelling) so that’s been on the chopping block even though I’m in love with Rhys William. Also love Callum Ray but not sure if it leans a little feminine?
Luke and Colin have always been on our list feel like “safer” options. Our last name treb!lc0ck has a lot of harsh consonants so flow isn’t easy and I worry about Jack with our last name.
Of course now that my husband is coming around to Callum I’m having doubts about whether it’s a weird name or if I’ll have to repeat it often. Admittedly, I love the aesthetic of it and the meaning “dove” is similar to our daughter’s name meaning “peace” (Olivia)
You honestly cannot go wrong with any of these. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] are my favorites, but I do have a soft spot for [name_m]Callum[/name_m] or nickname [name_m]Cal[/name_m]. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] sound very nice together. With your last name, I do think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] run into the end of it a bit.
[name_f][/name_f]
If your SO is worried about the ending of [name_m]Callum[/name_m], what about [name_m]Callen[/name_m]? [name_m]Callen[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] would be handsome.
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] are my favorites, both flow wise with your LN and with sister [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f]I have a soft spot for [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and the NN [name_m]Cal[/name_m]. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m] is so handsome, so that’d be my top choice! [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] would be my second choice. [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] would be my third!
[name_f][/name_f]
Agree with PP that [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] run into your LN a bit, and that makes them a bit harsher sounding, so I’d skip them all together.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rhys[/name_m] may[name_f][/name_f] take some correcting, but honestly, the Welsh spelling isn’t that uncommon. It was actually the first spelling I ever saw in my life, so I’ve always known that [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] was said like [name_f]Reese[/name_f]. (And I’m American!)
We were floating [name_m]Callan[/name_m] or [name_m]Callen[/name_m] around, that’s a possibility. I think nicknames [name_f]Liv[/name_f] & [name_m]Cal[/name_m] would be so cute! [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a family name so there’s some emotional pull there too
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m] or [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] for sure!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are great names, but they might run into your last name a little (however I would overlook this and use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] if you want to use a family name). I also love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m] as a pair! I do like [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] (and that’s my favorite spelling too), but I think you’ll have an easier time with pronunciation/spelling with [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Congratulations!
[name_m]Rhys[/name_m] is great, the fact of the matter is you’re going to have to correct people throughout your life on how to pronounce or spell different things. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rhys[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] is positively swoon-worthy!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] is less common in the US than the UK, and I think it’s about time it broke the USA. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m] is handsome and not feminine leaning in the slightest, in my opinion.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] are cool and easy. [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] would be combos I would consider with those names.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rhys[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] is handsome sounding and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is obviously a classic. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a timeless gem which pairs with [name_m]William[/name_m] wonderfully. The family connection of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is adorable, would you consider making [name_m]Jack[/name_m] a middle name option? Perhaps [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?
These are really great suggestions! We keep ruling out [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] and then coming back to it [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rhys[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] just has my heart and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] with any of the 3 middle names could as well.
[name_f][/name_f]
I haven’t thought much about [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a middle but it’s a good option to have the family tie in there without worrying about first/last name flow.
Hahaha, for sure! [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] is a cute name which is on soooo many variations of my list [name_f][/name_f] an alternative for [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] could be [name_m]Reid[/name_m] or [name_m]Reed[/name_m]? Easier to spell/pronounce?
These are all beautiful, timeless names! [name_f][/name_f] I think they pair very well with your daughter’s name as well. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] are my personal favorites, though I like [name_m]Cal[/name_m] names, and wish I loved [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f] I like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and [name_m]Callan[/name_m] much more, personally, or even [name_m]Cullen[/name_m], but [name_m]Callum[/name_m] does have a beautiful meaning and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m] are a beautiful pair! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] is my favorite option, though; they’re so lovely together and I love [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] with your surname. [name_f][/name_f] Plus, [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] is twice as popular as [name_f]Reese[/name_f] is, and I very rarely see the [name_f]Reese[/name_f] spelling (or Reece) being considered for a boy; everything is [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] these days. [name_f][/name_f] I wouldn’t worry too much about it! [name_f][/name_f] I also don’t think you’ll have too many issues with Callum; it’s becoming a familiar name itself. [name_f][/name_f] All of these names are so lovely; I can’t wait to see what you pick!
Oh darn! Here’s some others which give me the same vibe as [name_m]Rhys[/name_m]: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Evan[/name_m], [name_m]Dean[/name_m], [name_m]Sean[/name_m], [name_m]Callan[/name_m], [name_m]Cian[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m].
I hear you, I also wrestle between [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_m]Callan[/name_m], I like the look and meaning of [name_m]Callum[/name_m], but [name_m]Callan[/name_m] feels more natural to say but also just feels like “Allan” with a “C” to me
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rhys[/name_m] really is a great fit! If we aren’t brave enough to use it I might just have to get over the hesitation with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] since it’s so timeless and he could even go by [name_m]Jay[/name_m] or J. William/any form of his middle later in life
Thank you! I agree [name_m]Callum[/name_m] will probably give us less of a hard time than [name_m]Rhys[/name_m], as much as we love it. He’ll encounter a hard time with the last name no matter what we choose unfortunately.
[name_f][/name_f]
We knew [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] was the most popular name when we chose it but we love it and wanted something familiar and easy to spell since our last name is already a tough one. We might just have to sacrifice on name flow and go with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] since we really love the family name tie and I’ve pictured “Olivia & Jack” in my head for so long!
[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to the Nameberry community!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is the strong, handsome [name_m]Jack[/name_m] followed by Callen/Callum. Good luck with choosing the name you come to love best.
[name_m]Ah[/name_m] I keep coming back to [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] because I love how it sounds with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] → charming and gentle but cool too [name_f][/name_f]- it is been on the rise in the US and climbed pretty quickly last year so I don’t think people would find it too[name_f][/name_f] hard?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] → it’s okay. A bit clunky and ‘old man’ where I am, but I feel like it has totally different vibes in the US [name_f][/name_f]- and gives you a meaning your want
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] → classic, solid and safe; gentle and versatile
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] → a well-rounded, versatile option, snappy and sparky but grounded. [name_f]Do[/name_f] I love it with your surname? not sure that I do…
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Rhys[/name_m] → rugged and handsome but gentle too. I believe this is the most popular spelling in the US these days [name_f][/name_f]- but maybe test out how people in your circle / town would say it?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] is my fave, followed by [name_m]Rhys[/name_m]
