I’m looking for more subtly spiritual/ethereal names to add to my list. We have a son named [name_u]Sage[/name_u], so should go well with that.
Leaning towards an “underused ancient/older name with a subtle spiritual or ethereal meaning.” But modern and word names are also welcome. Preferably a name that doesn’t end in -a. Greek, Slavic, Nordic, Oriental, Latin names Etc all welcome as long as they are somewhat easy to pronounce in English. On my list are:
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]- from the [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m], fiery biblical Angels
Sunna - Nordic [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of the [name_f]Sun[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]/[name_u]Sky[/name_u] meaning
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] - “[name_m]Light[/name_m],” though more on my boys list right now
[name_f]Araceli[/name_f] - “altar of the sky”
[name_f]Celestine[/name_f] - “heavenly”
[name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] - a popular place of pilgrimage
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucina[/name_f] - [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess of childbirth
[name_f]Cybele[/name_f] - Anatolian mother goddess
[name_f]Selene[/name_f] - goddess of the moon
[name_f]Lune[/name_f] / [name_f]Luna[/name_f] - “moon”
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] / Freyja / [name_f]Freja[/name_f] - Norse goddess of many things, including love and beauty
[name_u]Seren[/name_u] - “star”
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - “light”
Idunn - Norse goddess of youth, though there could be pronunciation issues
I’d totally go for [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f], but somehow [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] naming her daughter this makes me hesitate. Great name though, maybe I’ll look for other places of pilgrimage!
I like [name_f]Cybele[/name_f] and [name_f]Selene[/name_f]! Thank you
I love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- adding to the list!!
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is my guilty pleasure name. It’s pretty much perfect in every way, except that it’s the name of a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of the underworld. I researched her a bit more and she’s actually not as dark as I remember, but somehow she’s associated with Death to me :S
Never heard [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] before- really liking it! I love the ending too - [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] is another somewhat guilty pleasure of mine. I like names ending in -th.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]!
Great names!
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is great, just a bit too [name_m]Christian[/name_m]-sounding for me.
[name_f]Lumi[/name_f] and [name_f]Maris[/name_f] are on my list!! I totally forgot about [name_f]Lumi[/name_f]. So many great Finnish names! [name_f]Maris[/name_f] is a mn contender to honor several relatives.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] - the two latter being on my list.
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] I’ve played around with, [name_f]Elyse[/name_f] or Elysium… On my list too!
Everyone mentioned most of the ones I had thought of. The only ones I don’t see yet are:
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] which means “heavenly”
[name_f]Leilani[/name_f] which means “heavenly flower”
[name_f]Noelani[/name_f] which means “heavenly mist”
[name_f]Talia[/name_f] which means “gentle dew from heaven”
[name_m]How[/name_m] strange, the name [name_f]Leilani[/name_f] just came to me out of nowhere and I was wondering if it was a name. Beautiful meaning! Is it Hawaiian?
[name_f]Noelani[/name_f] is beautiful too.
So is [name_f]Talia[/name_f]! Thank you
Maybe [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] meanings [name_f]Sun[/name_f]'s gift or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] meaning god’s gift? Maybe [name_f]Dora[/name_f] meaning gift or [name_f]Zora[/name_f] meaning [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] or Gersemi meaning treasure?
Ha! [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] / Sunneva was a TOP contender… Until I discussed the name in a different NB thread, and several people weighed in that they’d pronounce it like “son of a -!” I know that’s not how you actually pronounce it, but I thought it was a good argument against it. Still [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name though!!
