I’m looking for more subtly spiritual/ethereal names to add to my list for our second child. We have a son named [name_u]Sage[/name_u], so should go well with that.
Leaning towards an “underused ancient/older name with a subtle spiritual or ethereal meaning.” But modern and word names are also welcome. We love soft, unisex-leaning names for boys. Greek, Slavic, Nordic, Oriental, Latin names Etc all welcome as long as they are somewhat easy to pronounce in English.
Middle name is most likely going to be [name_u]Elias[/name_u].
On my list are currently only modern, minimalistic names…
[name_u]Zen[/name_u] - sometimes I roll my eyes at this one, sometimes I love it.
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] - “[name_m]Light[/name_m]”
Hmm these aren’t so much ancient (that I know of), but [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], [name_u]Ever[/name_u], and [name_u]True[/name_u] were what came to mind.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] found [name_u]Valo[/name_u]. Any names that mean light could work. Also found Mehdi.
Also [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] which mean immortal. [name_u]Cato[/name_u] - all-knowing.
I do love [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], and it was on our list. It’s currently trending in our area, so it’s not a top contender right now, but I should add it back to the list BC it does fit our criteria.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] feels more girl to me.
[name_u]True[/name_u] was on our list as well (though more for a girl.) Adding that one back!
[name_u]Valo[/name_u] is awesome! Adding! I love Finnish names.
Please keep the suggestions coming! Boy names are so hard for us!
Someone suggested [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] to me a while back. I think it is hauntingly lovely. It is a Latin word used for evening spiritual services .
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] is on the list… [name_m]Rune[/name_m] is on my girl’s list! I love [name_m]Amos[/name_m], but DH vetoed it (Famous [name_m]Amos[/name_m].) otherwise it would def be on my shortlist!
Was just curious what you thought of [name_u]Cato[/name_u]? Not exactly spiritual, but all-knowing could be an enlightenment association. but I was wondering if you’d think the meaning was too matchy with [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or if it was a cool tie. Or maybe just not one you like. Anyway, I love [name_u]Cato[/name_u] so I was just curious your thoughts!
Interesting suggestion.
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] doesn’t work in [name_m]German[/name_m] (where my family still lives), where it’s another word for “dinner”. I wasn’t aware of its spiritual connotation though, interesting.
I feel like there was an evil [name_m]Roman[/name_m] emperor or at least politician with that name… Was it the guy who set Carthago on fire? (Must brush up on my history here)
If I just take the name for its sound, they do go well together. I’m not a huge fan of boy names ending in -o, but I need more suggestions to stay open to other possibilities! So thank you
Wow @ [name_m]Faro[/name_m], [name_m]Meir[/name_m], [name_m]Volney[/name_m] and [name_u]Zia[/name_u]! Never heard of them, will look them up, thank you!
[name_m]Ved[/name_m] is on my list for girls as [name_f]Veda[/name_f].
[name_u]Cato[/name_u] the [name_m]Elder[/name_m] was the “Carthago delenda est” guy - he was a senator who urged that war. But he is also considered the first [name_m]Roman[/name_m] historian. He’s not remembered as evil in that way that say, the emperor [name_m]Nero[/name_m] is, who burned down [name_m]Rome[/name_m]. And arguably the more famous [name_u]Cato[/name_u] is his descendant, [name_u]Cato[/name_u] the Younger, who was a Stoic opposed [name_m]Julius[/name_m] [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] and is remembered for his morality and integrity. I don’t think [name_u]Cato[/name_u] has bad historical associations at all.
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] is a nice name: derives from the name for the god of forests. [name_u]River[/name_u] is nice too.
