If I were having a baby or two or three today, I would want one of the first names to be [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. I love this name beyond reason. But I could never stomach [name_f]Roz[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], Rozzy, [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as the inevitable nns, made all the worse because I could not find a nn I liked.
But then it came to me as I made my long commute from my kitchen to my study!
[name_u]Romy[/name_u]!
I’d thought of that as a nn for my beloved [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f] combo, but not for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of you have similar epiphanies when you suddenly just thought (or maybe a nameberry helped you realize) a nn you love for a name with disliked nns or no nns?
My most recent one was [name_u]Romy[/name_u] for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]! Absolutely loving it. Also [name_u]Remy[/name_u] for [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m]
Dally for [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]! I’m not really into unisex nns myself, but Dally is such a cute and spunky nn for a name that has such mature vibes.
Realizing I could probably get away with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Callie[/name_f]’ and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Zazie[/name_f]’ I’ve always loved [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but nicknames choices have been less certain, so these were nice revelations even if the nicknames might be a stretch.
Sylvie with nn [name_u]Silver[/name_u] or Vee
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] nn [name_f]Via[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_f]Perri[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] nn [name_f]Andi[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winry[/name_f]
Aloysius. I love [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m] and I like [name_m]Al[/name_m] just fine but it never clicked as right but then I thought al-o-wish-us. Wish. Now at the top of my list.
There’s certainly something magical about falling for a nickname as much as the name!
I love nicknames that offer a totally different feel, so a child has options as he or she grows. [name_f]My[/name_f] latest adoration:
[name_u]October[/name_u], nickname [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
I love how it sounds with my daughter, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]"[name_u]Rory[/name_u]." Both full names have so much gorgeous associated imagery and are a bit whimsical and feminine, but the nicknames are spunky and tomboyish. [name_u]October[/name_u] reminds me of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, and still, deep, days, and fall constellations, and brilliance and dignity. And that O is so alluring!
Sigh. So much love!
My cousin has a son named [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] and is now pregnant again. She mentioned loving [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] but not being a fan of [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] and I pointed out how easily [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] can become [name_u]Vinny[/name_u]. She was so STUNNED and was upset that he’s too old to be [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] (he’s almost 7). Seems obvious but from what I’ve seen most Kevins are [name_m]Kev[/name_m] for short; not many Vinnys from [name_m]Kevin[/name_m]!
I also love [name_u]Romy[/name_u] btw! So cute for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f].
Gwendolen called [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] called [name_f]Zelie[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] called [name_u]Indie[/name_u], and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Annmarie[/name_f] called [name_u]Sam[/name_u] (I know that’s two names together, but I loved it when it clicked), then [name_m]Peter[/name_m] called [name_u]Perry[/name_u] and [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] called [name_u]Kai[/name_u] on the boys’ side.
I have a ton as a silly goose nicknamer but most recently [name_f]Odette[/name_f] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]!! Really changed the [name_f]Odette[/name_f] game for me!!
