Sugar and Spice

My hubby and I are having a hard time coming up with a name we both love. We are looking for a name that will not get overly popular. Some of the names I like are:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Micaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]

The middle name will be [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (after my Grandmother). Our last name starts with a G and is one syllable. Tell me what you love or give me some suggestions! Thanks!

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is amazing! From your list, I love:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Celia[/name_f], it’s a fantastic, enchanting, sleek name. And it’s certainly not popular, I’ve never met one, only seen on the TV. Definitelt my favorite.
What about
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]?

Some lovely names there. I love [name_f]Liana[/name_f] the most. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is old fashioned and [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] is common… I’ve met so many [name_f]Micaela[/name_f]'s. I had a uni class with 3 of them once. I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f], maybe less common elsewhere? I like [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] seems to me to be quite on-trend right now, so I think I would eliminate that one. [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] with this spelling may not be super popular, but with all the spelling variants I also hear it a lot. All the others are good choices! My personal favorites are [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].

I vote [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! Such a lovely choice. I also love [name_f]Celia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] for your baby.

BTW, [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] is SUPER popular where I’m from.

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] list. I don’t like [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] much. My favourites;
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

Ditto on [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] and all her spelling variants – VERY popular.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] from your list. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounds the best combo-wise, I think.

[name_f]Isaura[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Zosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]

Another vote for [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

I like:

[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

For me, standouts are:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - a rarity to hear this name these days. love nn Liddy
[name_f]Liana[/name_f] - beautiful and unique
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] - like
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] - just ‘meh’ for me, doesn’t hold up against others on your list
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] - classic. love Biblical names but still not my fav on your list
[name_f]Micaela[/name_f] - dated. overused, especially when you include all the spelling variations
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - happy, bright. great spin on the timeless [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - love this name, i truly do but it seems to be trending a bit in recent years

It’s so hard to know which names will rise and which names are more prominent in your little corner. My personal rules for trying (in vain) to avoid a future Top 20 is:

  1. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t chose something a celebrity has chosen within the last 2 years. The name is brought to the attention of millions of people, who might suddenly see it as more ‘wearable’. So I’d remove [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] ([name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]'s DD1) and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] ([name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Johannson chose [name_f]Rose[/name_f].) This one is hard, because there are a TON of celebrities having babies this year.

  2. Check your area’s name counts for the most recent lists. If you have time, I’d wait until the 2014 names are released for your area. Not just the articles online speculating, but the actual name counts. You may have already done this. Where I am, I’ve met baby / toddler Scarlets, Michaelas and Naomis, so I would steer clear of that for myself, but your area is probably different. I like to stay out of the Top 100. Popular Baby Names

I will assume you are in the US, so here are the 2013 rankings:

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] #42 - Yup, pretty popular in the US too.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] #87 - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name but it’s rising.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] #96 - one of my faves.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] #348 - However, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] alone is down at #224 and like i said above, I’m sure you’ll see it much much lower in 2014.
[name_f]Micaela[/name_f] #410 - However, [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] is at #94 and if you count the many many spellings, I’d say stay away.
[name_f]Liana[/name_f] #565 - I think this one is ‘safe’ for this generation. It’s beautiful.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]#765 - I think this will rise, but not into the Top 100 for many years. Although, you should know that [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is at #223 and I’m sure those girls will get [name_f]Celia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cece[/name_f].
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] (not currently in the top 1000 but I’d place a heavy bet this will change for 2014) - maybe use [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and then you can get to [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] depending what suits her and what’s less popular where you are? Or [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]?

I don’t think you need to worry about best flow, because [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is set in stone, and it’s a great middle name for almost any name. My vote is [name_f]Liana[/name_f] - I love that it’s instantly pronouncable, familiar, have a lovely sound, yet isn’t heard often at all. Nns [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ana[/name_f] are sweet.

I am having twin girls and one of the names I chose (although we are still not 100% sure) is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I love the sound of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I also like the name [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
