Suggestion for names to honor my father

With a heavy heart, it is sad for me to say, that my father just recently passed away from cancer. He was honestly my best friend, we had a bond like no other. But here I am, a few months later, gifted with a miracle inside me. We are not sure if it’s a girl or a boy and we haven’t decided if we’ll find out either. This is our first child, so my father, unfortunately, won’t ever physically be apart of this process. I would love to honor him in some type of way. His name was [name_m]Harry[/name_m] Tawes - [name_m]Harry[/name_m] being named after his father and his middle name, Tawes, was named after the doctor who delivered him. Does anyone have any suggestions on an uncommon name, girl or boy, that could have the nickname of [name_m]Harry[/name_m]? Also, our thing was watching football, he was a diehard [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] Patriots fan, as am I. He loved [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_u]Brady[/name_u]. I was thinking of the name [name_u]Brady[/name_u], for either a girl or a boy. But it’s a little too popular for me. So, any suggestions?! Thank you so much in advance!

I like the idea of honoring a loved one with a name that represents them rather then using their given name. I also love the name [name_u]Brady[/name_u] for either gender so I really love that idea. I don’t think [name_u]Brady[/name_u] is too popular of a name, but if it is too popular for you what other interests/ hobby’s could you play off of?

Thats a lovely sentiment. Maybe you could take your fathers middle name one step farther and Incorporate in some way the name of the hospital he was born in. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know if that would work but its just a thought.

[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Harrietta[/name_f]
Henriella
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f]
[name_f]Hennie[/name_f]

Have you thought of simply using Patriot? It would definitely make for an unusual name. [name_u]Brady[/name_u] is an interesting name. I’ve never actually met anyone with that name. As far as Tawes i’m pretty much at a lose.

Does the town he was born/raised in work as a name?
Names that could be shortened to “[name_m]Harry[/name_m]”:
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
Harrigan
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_m]Harlyn[/name_m]
[name_u]Harley[/name_u]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]

Boy:
[name_m]Harland[/name_m]
[name_m]Hart[/name_m]
Harcourt
Harford

Girl:
[name_u]Harmony[/name_u], [name_f]Harmonia[/name_f]
Harlowe

I would use [name_m]Harris[/name_m] or [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] could work as well, since [name_m]Harry[/name_m] is a variant of [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

I knew an [name_f]Angharad[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Harrie[/name_f] for short. I dont know where you’re from but [name_f]Angharad[/name_f] is pretty popular here in [name_m]Wales[/name_m]. Its pronounced like its written -Ang - harad (the g is a hard G like in [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and the Harad part sounds like Harrods)

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Harrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f]

Thank you all. So much! My father did absolutely everything for me. He even retired to support me while I was a USA gymnast. He taught me everything from life to sports, to being the best person I can be, to never taking life too seriously. He taught me how to have fun and most importantly, he taught me how to love. He was the perfect man! I hope I can be half the parent he was to me!

By the way, I really like the idea of the name Patriot! But do you think that’s a little too far out there? Would it offend anyone? Maybe, I’ll make a poll and see what you all think. I plan on having more than one child, so if I go with Patriot, what could be some sibling names?!

If you’re unsure about Patriot as a first name, you could always use it as a middle.
I also wanted to say, would you be open to variants on [name_u]Brady[/name_u]? like [name_u]Bradley[/name_u]?

Best of luck!

Boy:
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Harro[/name_m]
[name_m]Henderson[/name_m]
[name_m]Enzo[/name_m]

Girl:
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriett[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hetty[/name_f]
[name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] (I love this one)

I don’t know if any one has suggested this yet, but a possible though unconventional way to honor him would be to name your child after the doctor who delivers your baby. It could be a fun way to honor how your father got his middle name. Passing on Tawes as a middle name would also be a nice way to honor him.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f]?! I want to make sure I’m saying it right! And I thought about Tawes because it is so different, but I don’t know if I like a one symbol name. I was also trying to put the two names together to make one name. If that makes sense.

I’m sorry about your father.

[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] ([name_u]Brady[/name_u])
[name_m]Thomason[/name_m]

Other Patriots:
[name_u]Willie[/name_u] McGinest
[name_u]Andre[/name_u] Tippett
[name_m]Rob[/name_m] Gronkowski
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] Edelman
[name_m]Mike[/name_m] Vrabel
[name_u]Drew[/name_u] Bledsoe

So…
[name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_m]Willam[/name_m]
[name_u]Andre[/name_u], [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Andra[/name_f]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m], [name_f]Roberta[/name_f]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_m]Julius[/name_m], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f],
[name_u]Drew[/name_u] (either b/g), [name_m]Andrew[/name_m],

My husband is a huge [name_m]Pats[/name_m] fan and could rattle these off immediately. I don’t know whether these will be helpful. You have some other great ideas here, I just thought this how I could add. Good luck with your little one!

I have always said it air-ee-eht-tee, but I’ve also heard it ah-ree-eht-ee.

I was even thinking of Tedy Bruschi. He was my favorite Patriot. I thought Bruschi would be cute, but people will probably think I mean Brewski. Or what about the name [name_m]Boston[/name_m]?!

I think [name_m]Boston[/name_m] could be cute! It could work for either gender. Also an nn [name_u]Pat[/name_u] could work (Patriot, [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Patrice[/name_u]). I do agree that those who don’t know Bruschi would probably assume that your little one is named after a beer. But Tedy Bruschi is an awesome person to be named after!

My number one boy name is and will always be [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. Although if I stick with it for my first child I don’t think I will call him [name_m]Harry[/name_m], it is always an option. [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_u]Brady[/name_u] is a nice name.
