[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! (Sorry, this is so long!)
I’m not expecting, just planning! I’ve have always had major problems finding girls’ names I love. There are so many I could say I like, but almost none of them give me the rush of happiness and excitement I feel when I find a name I truly love. Of course, I still have lots of time, but I quite enjoy hunting for names and would love to have a list of ‘definitive favourites’ (although I’m not sure how realistic that is, bah!). I’m hoping you clever girls can help me out, it would be much appreciated! Preferably something feminine, magical, relatively uncommon… My sister and I were the only ones in our school with our names, and I would like the same for my future children, so please don’t suggest anything too popular (along the lines of [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Lilly[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], etc).
Some names I love are:
Frøya – I adore this one, but think it would alienate a future daughter from her Hispanic relatives. It’s also a bit hard to pronounce in English. I dislike all other variations of the name (such as [name_f]Freya[/name_f], etc).
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] – it’s just becoming so, so popular. It’s still very high on the list, but I really don’t want to give my daughter a name that makes her ‘[name_f]Clara[/name_f] + randomletter’ in class.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] – same issue as with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I’ve been considering to replace it with [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] (one of SO’s favourites), but it just doesn’t give me the same feeling.
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] – always liked it, but some close friends of us have a daughter called [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], and I think it’s too close. I’m also reluctant because of the trendy ‘bel/el/elle’ names.
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] – I don’t have any problems with this name (SO likes it too!), but I don’t love it as much as the former ones.
[name_m]Roc[/name_m]ío – I love this family name, but SO dislikes all names with ‘roh’ or ‘rose’ sounds ([name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosana[/name_f], etc…)
My better-half really likes mythology names ([name_f]Hera[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], Frøya) that are a bit hard to pronounce for our families. He also likes:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – I like, but don’t love.
[name_f]Amber[/name_f] – I don’t like it.
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u] – worry about the association to elephant tusks.
[name_f]Dulce[/name_f] – I don’t like it.
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] – I like, but don’t love.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] – painfully popular for kids here.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys have any suggestions/opinions based on these lists?
