Sula?

I love the sweet simplicity of this name. I was playing this name over in my mind and then went to look it up and two big things popped up (aside from that it’s a place name, surprise!):

[name_f]Toni[/name_f] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m]'s novel of the same name – I have no idea how strong this connection is (as in, will people say “oh like the [name_f]Toni[/name_f] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] character?” often or not), but when the name is googled this novel always pops up and for those of us familiar with [name_f]Toni[/name_f] [name_m]Morrison[/name_m]'s work, it might not be the best connection…. I haven’t read this one, but always feel somewhat traumatized after reading anything by the without a doubt talented author, haha.

It’s a nickname for [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. This did not occur to me, and my boyfriend’s ex is named [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. It didn’t occur to him either. She’s a really nice girl, but do you think this takes it off the table? Would it for you?

I love the sound of [name_f]Sula[/name_f] because it’s similar to my favorite, [name_f]Zula[/name_f]. I don’t think the ex gf takes it off the table. Unless she was using the nickname (which, it doesn’t sound like she did.) If either of the worries you listed turn out to be a deal breaker, you might consider [name_f]Zula[/name_f] instead. It’s a diminutive of the Polish [name_f]Zuzanna[/name_f].

[name_f]Sula[/name_f] is actually very gorgeous! You should not take [name_f]Sula[/name_f] or [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] off the table; both are beautiful names!!!

The first thing that I thought of when I saw this name was the Irish word for eyes which sounds similar.

I’ve never actually heard of the name [name_f]Sula[/name_f]. It never even occured to me as a nickname for [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]… an ex-girlfriend named [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] wouldn’t bother me if I wanted to use [name_f]Sula[/name_f], unless it’s something she often goes by.

She doesn’t go by [name_f]Sula[/name_f], ever. She goes by [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] – I actually never thought of there being a nickname for [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. And sometimes is jokingly called [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] (bear). I also pronounce [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] as Er-sull-uh rather than Er-soo-luh. [name_f]Sula[/name_f] I pronounce Soo-luh.

I actually really like [name_f]Sula[/name_f], it reminds me of [name_f]Sulola[/name_f] which is the middle name of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Klum’s youngest daughter.

I love it. [name_f]My[/name_f] high school boyfriend has an adorable daughter named [name_f]Sula[/name_f] (sister to [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] which I also love). I’ve always thought it was such a pretty name (and great sib set for that matter).
