Summer for a boy?

[name_f]Summer[/name_f] for a boy?

I like it quite a lot.
It’s fresh and familiar, and I know is commonly a girl name, but it doesn’t sound weird on a boy. And you cand use [name_u]Sam[/name_u] as a nickname.

Im pretty sure he would go by [name_u]Sam[/name_u]/Sum to avoid being made fun of, so if you dont like that then I would advice against it

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like it sorry.

100% girl for me, like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f] . . . it’s such a soft and melodious name that I can’t picture it anyway.

Sorry, not working for me either. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is very feminine imo.

I can’t see [name_f]Summer[/name_f] on a boy. It’s been widely used for women for too long.

Somerled (summer traveler) or [name_f]Sommer[/name_f] ([name_m]German[/name_m] spelling of summer) could be options. I’m all for feminine names being used in reverse on boys.

[name_f]Somer[/name_f] on a boy is awesome. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] isn’t as awesome and is too feminine.

It’s all girl.

I wouldn’t use it as a first name for a boy, since it’s pretty much exclusively been used for girls. But thinking about it more, it does have a rather unisex sound, in the same vein as [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], and it’s a nature/word name which is a category many unisex names are from (like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_u]Ash[/name_u]). I could see it being a middle name for a boy with a clearly masculine first name.

Another similar option is [name_m]Sumner[/name_m], which another [name_u]Berry[/name_u] has recently put on her boys’ list.

There’s no reason it couldn’t be used for a boy. Unfortunately, as the responses in this thread show, there’s still a widespread prejudice against using feminine names for boys.

You know I see no problem with it, I think only fairly recently did someone decide that so many word names belonged to girls. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] only ever know one summer and she was a very tall blond girl that came from the southern united states, I have never again met a summer so I don’t think it is very common. I don’t know of anyone else with the name either, not in media that I can recall… if its all girl ok I guess…, but I mean it is a word, like river is pretty evenly split, summer doesn’t have hyper feminine characteristics or anything.

I kind of like it for a boy actually! I’m not sure how wearable it would be, per se, but if that doesn’t bother you, then I can’t see why it couldn’t be used. I would personally probably put it in the middle spot though.

I also kind of like it. You will have to deal with the same issues that people who use [name_u]James[/name_u] etc on a girl have to deal with - assumptions, odd looks, the occasional downright confusion (tales of ending up in the wrong dorms on summer camps etc). But I think if a girl named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] can manage and parents not discouraged, then why not [name_f]Summer[/name_f]? I do also like the suggestion of [name_m]Sumner[/name_m].

It’s all girl to me.

I think it sounds pretty femenine, but to each their own! What about [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] or Summit?
similar, but a little more masculine sounding?

To be honest I don’t even like [name_f]Summer[/name_f] on a girl but I saw [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] on someones sig and I liked it a lot, I think the combo was from ashthedreamer and it was [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and that’s really nice.

Not my favorite, I agree it is likely he would go by a nickname to avoid the attention. On the other hand, if this does not bother you, I think you should give him a name you have a connection to. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] isn’t as out there as some other names I have heard.

I think it’s fine. It’s a word/nature name.
