I’ve been loving [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]- I’ve known about the name for a while, but yesterday I had an “epiphany” where I realized what a gorgeous, stunning name [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] is. I don’t know why it didn’t stand out to me before. The story of the martyred [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] isn’t great, but doesn’t bother me unduly- plus “sun gift” is a beautiful meaning. Nicknames [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], [name_f]Sunni[/name_f] (prn. soon-ee), [name_f]Niva[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Iva[/name_f] (prn. eeva), etc. are darling. What do you think?
I love [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]. I agree it’s outstanding name. I like [name_f]Sunni[/name_f] nickname.
I adore [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], it’s such an underused gem of a name (I hope it stays underused, though, lol). It’s so distinctive, but not complicated, and its meaning is wonderful. I never thought of nicknames for [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] before, but I really like your ideas of [name_f]Neve[/name_f] and [name_f]Iva[/name_f].
So, I really like all of your nn choices! However, I’ve come across [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] on nameberry and the only issue I see with it is how it sort of sounds/looks like “son of a” I realize this is minor but I can’t help but think if that that phrase when I see the name.
[name_u]Sunny[/name_u], and [name_f]Iva[/name_f] and all your other nn options are really pretty and the meaning of the name is gorgeous!
I actually know a [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]- she always goes solely by [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] though, because she hates her lovely name. I think it will stay underused- I wouldn’t worry about that. It is quite a lovely name though.
I love this name to bits! I wouldn’t use it due to amount of other names I just ‘have to’ use for any future children but the meaning is great; love the nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]; love the Scandinavian roots; plus, it’s a book character (well, actually two characters) from my favourite series! What’s there not to love?
mom2one2’s right. It sounds just like ‘son of a’ which is trouble if you ask me.
I like it! Would kind of think twice about naming this beautiful name. I can see where many with crass people would impart another name for a female dog after it, which would make me boil over!
Actually, it’s pronounced soon-ee-va, not son-of-a. Though I see where y’all are coming from.
[name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] is a lovely name. The only reason it isn’t on my list is because it would never get pronounced correctly here. I feel like the average person would look at it and think “son of a…”
I adore [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] (obviously). I think she’s a gorgeous little gem, so playful and happy - gorgeous.
I would love to use it as a first, but I feel like it would be constantly said to sound very similar to ‘son of a’ (here) which is super unfortunate…I do plan to use it as a middle though. SOON-ih-vah sounds divine…I just wish this the correct pronunciation were more intuitive 'round these parts, but alas it is not.
I think [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] (soohn-ee-vah) is a great name as well. I live in Norway and here it’s a common, but not overused name. The only problem I have is that I don’t see it aging very well, and also it would be a shame if such a pretty name got mispronounced.
I think Synne (SYNN-eh) or [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] are nice nicknames for [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
