Has anyone been watching “The [name]Pacific[/name]”, an HBO series about World War II in the [name]Pacific[/name]? There are some very handsome men on the show, but they are mostly named [name]Bob[/name], [name]Bill[/name], and then there’s a [name]Eugene[/name]. There is one man named [name]Bob[/name] who is so cute, but he got wounded. The last time I saw him, he was in a wheelchair, going home on a ship.
But I am very tired of the name [name]Bob[/name] since I have known about fifty Bobs in my life. It is a very nice name but has been overexposed. My father-in-law was a [name]Bob[/name]. My sister had a long-time boyfriend named [name]Bob[/name]. My husband’s best man at our wedding was a [name]Bob[/name]. We had a neighbor boy named [name]Bobby[/name]. My father’s really good friend was named [name]Bob[/name]. My cousin’s husband is [name]Bob[/name]. [name]How[/name] many Bobs do you know?
[name]How[/name] many Daves do you know? Andrews?
My name is popular - how many Susans do you know? [name]Marys[/name]? Jennifers? Kimberlys?
What is the most popular name among your friends, relatives, and acquaintances?
Let’s see, I know only two Bobs that I can think of. Surprisingly, I only know one [name]Dave[/name] and one [name]Andrew[/name]. I know two Susans, only one [name]Mary[/name], and no Kimberleys.
The most popular name in my area seems to be [name]Stephen[/name]. Three Stephens (that spelling) of all ages. – [name]Christy[/name] ([name]Margaret[/name])
Well actually I’ve only known one [name]Bobby[/name].
One of the most popular names of people I know is [name]Sarah[/name]/[name]Sara[/name].
At my school I know 2 Sarahs and 1 [name]Sara[/name] and my best friend’s neighbour is [name]Sarah[/name].
I also know many [name]Maddy[/name]/Maddies. In my grade there are 2 Maddys and 1 [name]Maddie[/name], a girl moved away from my street but her name was [name]Maddy[/name].
I know 2 Lizzys, 3 Noahs.
My good friend is [name]Riley[/name], my neighbour is [name]Riley[/name], a boy at my school is [name]Riley[/name].
I know one [name]Kathryn[/name], and 2 Catherines.
The most popular name in my world is by far [name]Emily[/name]. Off the top of my head, I know 10 Emilys. 9 of them are between the ages of 13 and 15. I also know 4 Emmas.
I know 3 Calebs. 4 Lindsays. 3 Hannahs. 5 [name]Zach[/name]/ks. Suprisingly, only 2 Jacobs. Only 2 Bobs. 2 Daves. 1 [name]Susan[/name]. 2 [name]Marys[/name].
I know 2 Hannahs, 5 Jacobs, 3 [name]Zac[/name]/[name]Zach[/name]/[name]Zack[/name]/Zacharys, 3 Madisons ( all [name]Maddy[/name]), 2 Briannas (but they insist that one of them is bree-ahn-a, while the other is bree-ann-a, both go by [name]Bri[/name]), 2 Rileys (1 boy, 1 girl), 2 Taylors (1 boy, 1 girl), 2 [name]Julias[/name], 2 [name]Savannah[/name]/Savannas, 2 Rachels, and 2 [name]Jennifer[/name]/Jennies.
The more surprising ones include only 1 [name]Mary[/name] (1 [name]Marie[/name], and 1 [name]Maria[/name]), 2 Vivians, 2 Morgans (1 boy, 1 girl), 2 [name]Ashlee[/name]/Ashleighs (neither are spelled correctly!), 1 [name]Jessica[/name], no Susans, 2 [name]Juliana[/name]/Juliannas, 2 Jensens, and 2 Ariellas.
I’ve known 6 [name]Hannah[/name]'s, 5 [name]Emily[/name]'s, 5 [name]Alex[/name]'s ([name]Male[/name]) as well as 3 Female [name]Alex[/name]'s, 4 [name]Amanda[/name]'s, 3 [name]Andrew[/name]/Drews, plus 3 or 4 [name]Stephen[/name]/Stevens and a whole slew of Nicks. I’ve known several [name]Roberts[/name] but none of them liked the nn [name]Bob[/name] or [name]Bobby[/name], so I can’t say I’ve known any Bobs! Oh and I don’t know how many [name]Ashley[/name]'s, [name]Tiffany[/name]'s, [name]Brittany[/name]'s, & [name]Jessica[/name]'s.
I went to school with tons of [name]Alex[/name]'s, [name]Sarah[/name]'s and [name]Katie[/name]'s. I checked facebook to see what names I know the most of (out of 730 friends)-
Although I don’t really have anything to add to this post since there are NO Bobs in Norway I will say that I know 6 girls named [name]Silje[/name] which is the most popular version of [name]Cecilia[/name] here
I also know a lot of girls with names ending in -hild and starting with [name]Chris[/name]-. The [name]Chris[/name]- names in particular are swarming! A third of my class in ‘high school’ had some form of [name]Chris[/name]- name and [name]Kristian[/name]/[name]Christian[/name] and [name]Kristoffer[/name]/[name]Christopher[/name] are still both in the top 25 where they’ve been for the last 25 years at least… [name]Kristin[/name] is the dominant feminine form, and I know ate least 3 off the top of my head…
Okay, I’m going to see how many Bobs there are in my life:
My father-in-law (We called him Papa [name]Bob[/name])
My cousin’s husband
One of my dad’s best friends (We called him [name]Bob[/name] D.)
My sister’s ex-husband (We called him Mucky)
My husband’s best man
A neighbor boy ([name]Bobby[/name])
A man from our business years who was very bad. I don’t want to go into detail about him.
One of our vendors when we had a business (We called him Shorty [name]Bob[/name] to differentiate him from all the other Bobs)
Now for some other popular names in my life:
Davids
One of my best friends in high school
My cousin’s husband
My husband’s friend
A man at church that we are in a small group with.
What my sister’s name would have been if she’d been a boy.
My friend’s husband
Our neighbor
My husband’s cousin
[name]Stephen[/name]
One of my best friends from college
What my name was going to be if I’d been a boy
The boy I had a huge crush on in high school - why did I like him so much?
A family friend
The brother of one of my best friends
[name]Matthew[/name]
My cousin
My cousin’s son
One of our friends at church
[name]Linda[/name]
Our former receptionist
Our doctor
My sister’s best friend who is also a family friend
[name]Kathy[/name]/[name]Cathy[/name]
My sister
My husband’s cousin
My neighbor who invites us over a lot. She’s a great cook and loves to play Scrabble
My friend at church whose daughter is an amazing violinist.
This really strange woman from an old church group. I used to take her to lunch. She had O.C.D. and would use about fifty napkins. She had to sit at a table far away from any windows. She has so many health problems - it’s very sad.
Another of my sister’s best friends.
One of our friends at church
A friend from our old church
One of my childhood friends
Most of my male friends’ names are [name]Matt[/name] or [name]Chris[/name]. My female friends are [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Lindsey[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name], some sort of [name]Christy[/name] or [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Kate[/name]/[name]Katie[/name].
I’m of the wrong generation to actually know anyone named [name]Bob[/name], funnily enough, although I have met several [name]Robert[/name] "[name]Rob[/name]"s.
[name]Dave[/name] - none! But a few Davids.
[name]Andrew[/name] - four
[name]Susan[/name] - an enormous amount of my parents’ generation.
[name]Mary[/name] - two young-ish ones, and a couple of adults. I have known a couple of [name]Maries[/name] and several Marias, too.
[name]Jennifer[/name] - three (I just missed this trend)
[name]Kimberly[/name] - one (ditto).
The most popular name in my family seems to be [name]Charles[/name], for several generations back.
I have met an awful lot of (discounting ever-popular classics, such as [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name]) :
[name]Gabriella[/name] - 9
[name]Olivia[/name] - about 12
[name]Alice[/name] - 10
[name]Sophie[/name] - 8.
[name]Tyler[/name]:
In my grade, there are 12. Last time I counted every grade from the yearbook, 23. [name]Tyler[/name] is so insanely popular, in two of my classes there are 3 different Tylers. Nearly every one of my classes has multiple Tylers.
[name]John[/name]:
I think I know about 10. I was shocked when I realized how many Johns I knew. Some are Jonathans, but most are just [name]John[/name].
I grouped these together because all of the [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Katheryn[/name]'s go by [name]Katie[/name]. This name is crazy popular.
Not as popular, but some still shocked at how many I know:
[name]Ryan[/name]: 6, 4 of which are in my math class
[name]Brandon[/name]/[name]Brandyn[/name]: 3
[name]Connor[/name]: 5
[name]Tara[/name]: 3 in my grade, shocking
[name]Erin[/name]: 3
[name]Forrest[/name]: 3, this one really surprises me, and it’s weird because they’re all on the same page in the yearbook
These names are EVERYWHERE:
[name]Christopher[/name] - 10 popped to mind instantly without even thinking about it
[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Michael[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] - at least 15 I can think of in less than 30 seconds
I don’t really feel like the same phenomemon exists so much with women/girl’s names, though there are an awful lot of Jessicas around my age (30-ish).
[name]Lisa[/name] is another one that I find to be quite popular.
Unlike with the popular guy’s names, though, I don’t see these getting repeated on anyone under 18.
