Surprises in my State

[name]Hi[/name] All,

I just did this for the girls and now thought I’d share for the boys…

I recently went to the Social Security name site and checked the top 100 names in my state and thought it would be interesting to start a thread about surprises in your state, since quite a few stood out to me. Below are names listed in [name]UTAH[/name] that made the top 100 in 2010, but are not in the national top 100.

NAME, [name]UTAH[/name] RANK/US RANK
[name]Ryker[/name], 26/311
[name]Lincoln[/name], 28/197
[name]Boston[/name], 51/545
[name]Porter[/name], 56/446

[name]Tyson[/name], 67/237
[name]Bridger[/name], 71/916
[name]Hudson[/name], 73/138
[name]Jace[/name], 76/146
[name]Kaden[/name], 77/106
[name]Ryder[/name], 80/135
[name]Sawyer[/name], 81/173
[name]Miles[/name], 82/137
[name]Kyler[/name], 88/269
[name]Daxton[/name], 89/747
[name]Seth[/name], 91/165

[name]Jude[/name], 97/170
[name]Corbin[/name], 98/250
[name]Tanner[/name], 100/176

I’m not surprised by many of these, however the few that stood out to me are:
[name]Ryker[/name], [name]Boston[/name], [name]Porter[/name], [name]Tyson[/name], [name]Bridger[/name], [name]Kyler[/name], [name]Daxton[/name], [name]Corbin[/name]

Thoughts? What names top the charts in your state or area that you might be surprised about??

Wow, that’s a lot!

For my state:

[name]Colin[/name] 76/111
[name]Bryce[/name] 79/112
[name]Sean[/name] 80/103
[name]Brady[/name] 81/125
[name]Shane[/name] 82/200
[name]Vincent[/name] 84/109
[name]Nolan[/name] 89/104
[name]Patrick[/name] 90/129
[name]Kyle[/name] 91/107
[name]Jake[/name] 95/129
[name]Timothy[/name] 97/115
[name]Gage[/name] 99/152
[name]Micah[/name] 100/108

None of this really surprises me, though–all the people in Pennsylvania I know go for fairly traditional sorts of names–it took me a while until I got to one that was in the PA top 100 that wasn’t in the national one–and that’s because they’re all sort of dated, haha.

I figured I’d do the girls’ list, too:

[name]Lydia[/name] 55/111 (no surprise here–I hear [name]Lydia[/name] all over the place, from my age all the way down to new babies… [name]Lydia[/name] is definitely a Pennsylvania favorite!)
[name]Sadie[/name] 63/118
[name]Mary[/name] 65/109
[name]Rylee[/name] 70/102 (no surprise here, either! I meet so many Rileys/Rylees/Ryleighs everywhere I go!)
[name]Jordyn[/name] 81/112
[name]Mya[/name] 83/101
[name]Katelyn[/name] 85/103
[name]Julianna[/name] 86/176
[name]Lilly[/name] 87/107
[name]London[/name] 88/108
[name]Kendall[/name] 89/133
[name]Alivia[/name] 91/174
[name]Adrianna[/name] 95/173
[name]Jenna[/name] 97/141
[name]Megan[/name] 98/131
[name]Juliana[/name] 100/145

The only one for the girls that really surprised me was [name]Juliana[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name]–I’m pleasantly surprised that they’re in the top 100 for PA! I was also pretty happy about [name]Patrick[/name] and [name]Mary[/name]. The others are quite predictable to me–Pennsylvanians seem to love their unisex, and dated, fairly classic, 100-range type names, lol.

A couple from my state: [name]Jose[/name] #2, [name]Angel[/name] #4. This is for [name]Texas[/name]. The one I really am surprised by is on the girl side. Apparently the name [name]Genesis[/name] is in the 20-30 range. I’ve never even heard that one, though I have heard [name]Isis[/name], maybe they use that as a nn?

Really? [name]Genesis[/name] is also in the top 100 nationally. I know a [name]Genesis[/name] who goes by just [name]Genesis[/name]… I figured it was in the top 100 in my state, too, but apparently it’s not. I used to really like it–I actually went through a phase of wanting to name all my kids after books in the Bible, lol (my favorite was Revelation nn [name]Shelly[/name], though, haha).

Thanks for sharing. It is pretty interesting how different naming styles can be from state to state.
