We just found out on [name]Sunday[/name] that we are finally expecting again. (Hopefully this one sticks!) Since we found out on [name]Easter[/name], I was thinking that [name]Susannah[/name] would be a perfect choice as it means ‘lily.’ I have been wavering between [name]Susannah[/name] and a few others for awhile but that seemed like a sign =). I just hesitate because, although it’s not popular at all, it seems like such an OBVIOUS name for people to discover all at once. It’s an alternate [name]Savannah[/name] and [name]Samantha[/name], and it has the ‘[name]Anna[/name]’ that so many other popular names do. I am not evolved enough to not care if my kids’ names become super popular. I know [name]Phoebe[/name] is relatively common in some places, but around here there’s not too many and it seems to hover around the same place on the US chart. So predict the future for me, Berries! Is [name]Susannah[/name] the next [name]Sophia[/name]?
Congratulations!
Personally I don’t think [name]Susannah[/name] has the same ‘jazz’ or cuteness as [name]Sophia[/name] so I really don’t think [name]Susannah[/name] will become the next [name]Sophia[/name]. Yes I think she’ll have more attention, especially on nameberry but this doesn’t mean that she’ll become so popular especially if the only attention she gets on nameberry and not in ‘reality’ most of the names that are mentioned on this list aren’t really names that are used commonly in everyday life. [name]Do[/name] you see many children called [name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name]? I don’t despite all the attention berries give these choices. [name]Just[/name] because [name]Susannah[/name] is being mentioned doesn’t mean she’s actually being used. [name]Susannah[/name] is a great contender. Seriously think of her when naming this little one.
Good luck x
Seeing as it doesn’t even rank right now it would have to shoot up a lot of places to be as popular as [name]Sophia[/name]. I think the significance for you is more important here. It is a beautiful name.
Congratulations!
I love the name [name]Susannah[/name]! I’d have used it if it flowed nicely with my fiance’s last name! Definitely use it, it’s a gorgeous name, and it’s so rare, but elegant and beautiful
I don’t think [name]Susannah[/name] has the broad appeal that [name]Sophia[/name] does, that being said [name]Susannah[/name] is a beautiful name and the meaning behind it is lovely for you.
Nameberry popularity does not equal real world popularity. I, myself, get my view on popularity skewed if I spend too much time on here, but a good way to bring yourself back to reality is to look at the Social Security list, just as a reminder. We’re a very specific group of people with a very specific style, it’s just a tiny example of whats actually being used.
I love [name]Susannah[/name], especially with the cute, quirky nickname Zanny.
Actually, I’ve met four under 2 in the past couple of months! It could definitely be where I live though. It was just funny to see your comment since my husband and I were talking last night about all the [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]-named little ones we have met recently since we love both names so much. Anyway, you are right, popularity on nameberry does not necessarily indicate greater trends in naming. [name]Susannah[/name] is a wonderful choice. I doubt it will be [name]Sophia[/name] popular but I do see it gaining some popularity as it is familiar and lovely.
I think [name]Susannah[/name] is a lovely choice.
It’s too much of a classic to waver drastically in popularity (unless some random popstar suddenly appears with the name).
Great reason to pick it and a great name with great nn possibilities.
Thanks for all the positive thoughts! The other names we were kicking around are [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name], nn [name]Sylvie[/name]. What is your opinion?
I adore [name]Susannah[/name], but also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name]!! I can see [name]Sylvie[/name] getting a little more popular, as it is a great alternative to [name]Sophie[/name] (and [name]Sylvia[/name] for [name]Sophia[/name]), but I don’t think any of these names (including [name]Susanna[/name]) will be uber popular. And the popularity never jumps to top 100 overnight, so I think any of those names are safe, and I don’t think they will ever sound trendy, even if they get more popular. I really have a hard time deciding which I like better, [name]Susannah[/name] or [name]Sylvia[/name]/[name]Sylvie[/name]!
[name]Susannah[/name] is lovely, I only know 1 [name]Susannah[/name]. [name]Savannah[/name] & [name]Sylvie[/name] are also great choices.
I think [name]Susannah[/name] is classic and very pretty, but I don’t see it becoming trendy unless a celebrity uses it or something. I think it’s more in the “enduring classic” category.
I think [name]Susannah[/name] is a great name that has potential for becoming more popular. It’s a good alternative to the trendy [name]Sophia[/name].
YES! [name]Susannah[/name] is my absolute favourite girls name! Go for it! At the moment, it’s not in the top 1000, and it’ll never be as popular as [name]Sophia[/name]. That said, I think its popularity will increase over the next few years. My favourite girls combination is [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] and a very likely choice for our first daughter’s name.
I’m loving the name [name]Susannah[/name] right now! If I ever use it, it will be the [name]Susanna[/name] spelling (after [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Shakespeare[/name]) but either way it’s gorgeous. Like previous posters, I can’t see it becoming popular any time in the near future. If you’re that worried about popularity, how about the similar [name]Isannah[/name]?
I prefer [name]Blythe[/name] over [name]Susannah[/name].
I think [name]Susannah[/name] is lovely. My cousin has a 5yo named [name]Susanna[/name]; they chose it to honor [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Wesley[/name]. When she was born I remember thinking that it was the perfect “fitting-in, standing-out” choice; not unusual, but not commonplace either. I don’t see it becoming trendy at all.
I think something would have to happen to draw [name]Susannah[/name] into the spotlight to rise to those popularity heights. I actually grew up with a [name]Susannah[/name] in my class (I’m 28) and I always thought it was such a beautiful name - I would love to see you use it! I could see [name]Susannah[/name] rising a little but, but not a lot. Frankly, the [name]Savannah[/name] heights have mostly hit and are starting to wane and if [name]Susannah[/name] didn’t catch on then, well, I don’t think it’s going to take off now.
I don’t think [name]Susannah[/name] is gonna pop just yet. Although [name]Susannah[/name] is a little fresher, most [name]Sue[/name] names are still very dated for most people. My mom is a [name]Sue[/name] and there are so many [name]Sue[/name]'s her age where I live, it is ridiculous. In her high school year book there were several other Sues just in her grade.
[name]Susannah[/name] isn’t the next [name]Sophia[/name] at all! It seems to be a favorite on this board but I wouldn’t say that it’s common in real life.
I used to hate the name [name]Susannah[/name] but it has been growing on me lately! I love the meaning behind it for you.
