I think [name]Suzannah[/name] is enough of a ‘real’ name to stand on it’s own and not always be looked at as a substitution, I also think that using the z in all your children’s names is a nice way to tie them all together.

Sure, do the Z. It’s not really out of the common way, I’ve seen it spelled in both ways. It doesn’t feel like a weird change.

It’s like [name]Elisabeth[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], both valid choices in my book.

And I like [name]Suzy[/name] and [name]Zana[/name]!

Hmm… I disagree. While [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Susanna[/name], and [name]Susana[/name] are all established spellings, I don’t think [name]Suzannah[/name] is. I don’t think it’s on par with [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name]. Maybe it’s a pet peeve of mine, but I just really don’t like [name]Suzannah[/name] spelled with a Z… it looks made-up to me.

If you do [name]Susannah[/name], they are all still biblical names that end in -h  I definitely vote for [name]Susannah[/name].

Does it help that my Grandmother’s name is [name]Elizabeth[/name] to unite the Z in place of the S? I have found quite a few [name]Suzannah[/name]'s when I search the web, including authors…

It’s a tough call and I am not certain either way.

[name]Even[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] is a variant of the original [name]Susanna[/name]. Then the Greek was Sousanna and the Hebrew [name]Shoshannah[/name]
To me, no matter what names are usually variations in some way, [name]Suzannah[/name] is a rather old and established variation.

Since it’s a trend in your family I think it’s more than acceptable.

I voted [name]Susannah[/name] til I read your post. I have never seen it with the z but I don’t think it looks awful, and agree it Might be a nice match with your boy names! That said, I really like the nn [name]Zuzu[/name] for [name]Susannah[/name], so if you might use that nn, you could leave the s spelling and get your z fix in the nn. I think you should spell it whichever way you want and has more meaning for youin this case, bc with the z does not look terribly crazy!

What about [name]Suzanna[/name]? I think it looks better than [name]Suzannah[/name].

If you’re attached to the ‘h’ ending, i’d go with [name]Susannah[/name].

good luck!

I agree with pp regarding [name]Suzanna[/name] spelling. I adore [name]Susannah[/name] it defintly goes well with your sons names.

Hmm…there is one other piece to the puzzle. If I were to have another girl I would strongly consider naming her [name]Elizabeth[/name].

I don’t think I could go to [name]Elizabeth[/name] first…If [name]Susannah[/name], then [name]Elisabeth[/name]?

I agree with redtulips!

For most of her life, she will not be listed with her siblings, so my thought is to use whichever you prefer on its own without considering her brothers. For me this would be [name]Susannah[/name], no contest. Also, it sounds like given the chance, you might not change the spelling of your older son’s name again - I would consider this your chance. [name]Susannah[/name] shares the Z sound and gets the actual Z with [name]Zuzu[/name] (such a perfectly adorable nickname, by the way). As for your second question, I would choose [name]Elizabeth[/name] to match the spelling of your grandmother. I don’t find this inconsistent with the [name]Susannah[/name] decision as you are still choosing Biblical names and are using their most common spelling (and all do end in H as pp noticed!).

I love this name! I prefer [name]Susannah[/name]… soft and feminine yet classic and strong! It might be nice if your boys share a hard Z sound and the girls the strong S sound. [name]Elisabeth[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] are beautiful and [name]Elisabeth[/name] is not nearly as common as [name]Elizabeth[/name].

I completely agree with gwensmom.

I like [name]Suzannah[/name] over [name]Susannah[/name]. I prefer the z sound over the s sound. If you pronounce it with the s sound regardless how you spell it then I’d say go with s. If you pronounce the z as a z then definitely go with the z.

Gwensmom- Well said. When you put it that way, I think I would have to agree with you. [name]Susannah[/name] is how [name]Shakespeare[/name] spelled his daughter’s name after all.
Thanks so much for all the input!!

miss.kmg- I think you are right. It would be a nice way to pair them. Also, if we are going to use [name]Jude[/name] as a middle name a Z makes the name sound a little too…harsh?

[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] are darling
