after completing the hunger games book series back in 2020 and the movie series last name, ive come to the realisation that suzanne collins seems like such a berry. i have a feeling that due to the recent hunger games renaissance, some people may lean into the series for name inspiration.

silly post, i know, but what do you think? would you give any of these names a chance? i personally loved the idea of a name like clove in my childhood.
[name_m]Cinna[/name_m] is actually one of her many [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names. The [name_m]Cinna[/name_m] family included the father in law of [name_m]Julius[/name_m] [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] and a conspirator against [name_m]Augustus[/name_m].
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (by itself but it does work well as a double barrrel) are already on my list!
The renewed popularity will probably have a bit of an influence on names for the next couple years, especially in boosting the popularity of the more “safe” names on the list.
You’re totally right that [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] would fit right in in here! [name_f]My[/name_f] sister and I were talking about how while most of the names in the series are unusual they actually seem to fall into categories (that you pointed out) that feel like the natural evolution of current name trends so they feel like realistic names for a story that takes place in the future.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] the other day my partner suggested [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] for our list after we rewatched the Hunger Games! I was actually planning to make a post on here about its usability/association to HG. I absolutely love it.
I’m also enamoured with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Gray[/name_u] at the moment. I think she’s so charming, even though I’m usually not a big fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. Maybe it’s my love for the character taking over.
I also really like [name_m]Cinna[/name_m], [name_u]Seneca[/name_u], [name_u]Marvel[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_m]Claudius[/name_m], [name_f]Portia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Clemensia[/name_f], [name_m]Lucretius[/name_m], [name_m]Romulus[/name_m], [name_u]Alma[/name_u], Sejanus, [name_m]Jessup[/name_m], Sabyn, [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and [name_f]Maude[/name_f] [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. Bobbin is not one I’d ever have imagined myself loving, but it’s so sweet!
I took a quick look at some stats and these ones did enter the UK charts following the release of the books/films - or they had big jumps in popularity around the times the films were super popular:
[name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is brilliant at what she does! She really takes into account not only who the character is, but also how they got their name and who named them, and societal influences on names - and it shows! Her names are out there, but they feel grounded and real. You can feel in her writing that the characters are people just like us, just in a world where a lor has changed.
I’ve always loved [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] Collins’ names! Before Hunger Games came out, I was obsessed with her Underland Chronicles series (my favorite book series since I was 11 years old, to this day lol). That’s actually how I got introduced to the name [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and it’s been on my list ever since.
i have never watched/read the hunger games books, but this list excites me! she has to be a secret name-nerd. those are such good names. i love most of them.
