My husband was playing duck duck goose with the kids this morning and I made a joke about naming the baby ‘Goose’ because we are just not having any luck naming this child. He laughed and said ‘No but [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is pretty.’
I looked it up and it is on nameberry…
It is starting to grow on me, though I am not sold on it or anything. More just mulling it over. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what your impression is when you hear this name.
I think it has potential since: [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_u]Raven[/name_u]… are all used. What do you think?
We are solid on the middle name [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]. So if we indeed went this route her name would be [name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u].
I’ve never heard it before, but it is pretty however does sound slightly hippie.
I prefer it over [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_u]Raven[/name_u] or Goose!!!
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is beautiful.
Does it match your other kids names.

We actually have a daughter named [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] [name_u]Blue[/name_u], and 3 sons, [name_m]Viggo[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], and [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m].
We live in a city that should be called ‘HipsterBeardoWeirdoVille’ so not really worried about the hippie aspect. lol And Goose was a joke…LOL
I didn’t really want another bird name though but I haven’t liked any other name at all. This has been the first one to peek my interest I have been searching since [name_f]September[/name_f] when we found out it was a girl. I only recently started posting because frankly I am worried I won’t have a name for our daughter by the time she comes. I haven’t liked a single name. haha.
I wouldn’t name this baby [name_f]Swan[/name_f] if you already have a [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] - I just think it’s a bit too themed for a sibset. It is an interesting name though, and I do like [name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u].
I’m sure you’ve already thought of and dismissed all these, but just in case:
I have a [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] too, and I think [name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is abosuletly gorgeous.
I was suggested (still searching for a name too) [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f] etc to go with my [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] so I don’t think [name_f]Swan[/name_f] and [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] is too matchy matchy.
Yes @bluecurry! We have been suggested every bird name in the book to go with [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]! I am still concerned with the ‘theme’ naming but this is our last baby. I am torn.
@ew314 Thanks for the input and the suggetions, none of them appeal to me but they are very appeciated!
are [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] & [name_u]Raven[/name_u] your kids?? ohh just went back, I thought you meant used by you…lol. a bird family! 2 is fine, 5 birds might be a bit much.
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is pretty… quirky, but pretty. I love [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] by the way. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Avia[/name_f], [name_f]Avis[/name_f] or [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]?
p.s. I actually call my son ‘Goose’ about a third of the time… sprang from ‘silly goose’
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is absolutely gorgeous! I say go for it! And imo, [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] and [name_f]Swan[/name_f] make adorable sisters names.
I think it’s fun and different, but to play devil’s advocate… [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is a lot weirder than [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], in my opinion, plus they’re remarkably similar for a sibset. It’s also a much less pretty word to say aloud (though that might just be my latent Midwestern accent coming out). It’s also worth considering any “ugly duckling” potential for teasing.
I think it works! It also works with the sibset.
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] doesn’t really seem like a name to me, it’s such a short word and quite abrupt (maybe that’s just when said in a British accent) BUT some of my friends have named their children very unique names and they always grow on me. You have made bold choices with your other children’s names and I think [name_f]Swan[/name_f] makes sense with them.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] gonna throw out [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] ([name_u]Dove[/name_u]) and [name_f]Odette[/name_f] (from [name_f]Swan[/name_f] lake).
Thanks everyone for the thoughts! [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is really growing on me but I agree with you @lunaloveyou it does sound a little short and abrubt to my ears.
husband suggested [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f] but I am pretty set on [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] as the middle name.
I think [name_f]Swan[/name_f] would make a great middle name, but I’m not sure I love it for a first name especially if you already have a [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]. What about switching it around to [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] [name_f]Swan[/name_f]? I think that’s lovely, and fixes the theme problem.
I don’t like [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] as a first name. I intend to make a poll later, I am down to my final 2 names I think We made lots of headway today in the area of baby naming! Thanks berries!
