today, i’m looking for ideas for sisters to odelia, or names that might expand my specific list that includes just her at the moment.

i’m not exactly sure what it is that draws me towards odelia so much, but i adore how peaceful she feels, as well as the literary lyrical tie that the nickname ode has. she can also be seen as a take on the name otilia, which appears in my family tree, but she has undeniable usage and history separate from that, which i love. she feels honeyed, pastoral, and antique, but also off-beat and unexpected, with a bit of an earthy and spiritual spunk.

ooh, i do always suggest isannah to others, so i really should give her more thought! she is quite lovely. i’m also really loving lunneth, and seeing her reminds me of luthien, which might make an unexpected but good addition to this list. romilly is sweet too. thank you so much!

i’ve been playing around with marilla lately, and actually toyed with adding her to this list, so i love that you mentioned her! abilene is such a beautiful name, and i love the connection it has to aibileen clark from the maid[name_f][/name_f]. abilene and odelia, “billie” [name_f][/name_f] and “ode” would be soo[name_f][/name_f] sweet together. thank you so much!

i’ve been so excited to read your reply since i saw the tidbit about going through your notes! you really nailed how i feel about odelia – an old census records girl whose name was always rare. she reminds me of names found in family trees (i’ve got an ottilia in my midwest family tree, but also an ora, entla, and evaline in my appalachian one, which all feel reminiscent of odelia) or on old gravestones in appalachia. one of those gems you’d find in old records and think “why didn’t this catch on in our family?!”

funnily enough, on the note of family trees, there’s been usage of the name zerilda on my paternal side, so i love[name_f][/name_f] zerelda! you absolutely nailed this (needing all of your history nerd notes asap ). i’m especially loving rowella, philomine, sibylla, dellaphine (what charm she’s got 
), winnet, trucy, merline, pluma, sophronia, marilla, thomasin, elvinea, pearline (love!), isola, claramae, clarabeth, nesta (favorite character, so this would be particularly special!), edeline, floralie, and louellen. all of these are so incredibly perfect, i feel like i need to shout it so everyone comes to see them! thank you so much, wendy.
