Am daydreaming about a sister to Will@, instead of reading my Xmas book, and today I’m somewhat off my top faves (Josephine, [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and Rose) and back into my slightly rougher (lol) and more spunky names [name_f][/name_f]- eg [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_m]Dylan[/name_m] (but can’t really do [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and Dylan), [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Romy[/name_f] eg.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Can[/name_m] you please share some of your girl names that aren’t classically “pretty”, maybe have something a little unusual or unexpected about them, aren’t too trendy (no obvious word names) but still feel “cool” in some understated (lol) way. They needn’t be unisex, but what you’d call “spunky” or self-assured.
[name_f][/name_f]
Ideally, they don’t end in a T (and go with a Celtic sounding last name that sounds like Theroux). Heritage (not a must, just if helps inspire): Australian, [name_m]Brit[/name_m] (English, Scottish & Welsh), [name_m]Irish[/name_m], [name_f]French[/name_f], and Swedish.
Thanks! Love a lot of these. Arlan is interesting - reminds me of Rylan (a girl I met once). I love Jolene - would it assign her to a life of Dolly singing at her? @Ehrob1
Was going to list what I like - but it’s all but a few. Thank you! Will review, but Saskia is one I really like but forget I do. Was thinking about the boys’ name Oisin the other day - I really like it but not sure it can be used for a girl? There’s Roisin but I prefer “Oash” to “Roash” as a sound. Thoughts? Do you have any other Irish/Celtic gems? @Greyblue
Also, do you prn Saskia, Sass-Kia or Sah-Skia or something else?
Forgot about [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]! I really like it. [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] & [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] too. [name_f]Maude[/name_f] was my great-aunt’s name so hard to decouple. Thank you for replying @Demoiselle[name_f][/name_f].
From the names your preferring I do love [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f] & [name_f]Romy[/name_f] they are lovely here’s hoping I can suggest some names that work for you! Please count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
Right up my street @tori101[name_f][/name_f]! Like many many more than I am less sure about. [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] is so sweet [name_f][/name_f]- grandmother was [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] so that name nn [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] is often on my mind.
Thanks for posting! So many gems - had never heard of Lucine! Tess, Imogen, Arden, Zadie & Ismay are all on my long list. How do you think Saskia compares to these and your others generally? @kachenka
Thank you! Think we’ll see [name_m]Boomer[/name_m] names back in force soon enoug [name_f][/name_f]- I really like [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Judith[/name_f] (Judy) & [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. [name_f]Roseanna[/name_f] is definitely up there for me, and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] too (but it’s one of Willa’s middles so out of contention ).
Fr@nces is a fave [name_f][/name_f]- Willa’s first middle name but have wondered if could use again in top spot (her other middle is El0ise but that’s also my name so not wheeling that out again). [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Oona[/name_f] & [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] was almost [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- just not great with the last name. M
Thanks for posting! [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are all up there on my list. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Kit[/name_m] too but would need to be [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] nn [name_m]Kit[/name_m] or another route to [name_m]Kit[/name_m] with our unusual T starting last name. Haven’t heard of [name_f]Elvy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- it’s definitely sweet and strong at same time!
A great list, thank you! You’ve inadvertently included a handful of honour names. And some names that really appeal to me: [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] & [name_f]Ginger[/name_f].
@EloiseT[name_f][/name_f] I say [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] as sass-kee-uh, which is how the ones I’ve met have pronounced it [name_f][/name_f]- but it might be pronounced differently in other countries (I think in [name_m]Dutch[/name_m], it would be SAHS-kee-uh)
[name_f][/name_f]
I’m not sure on [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] for a boy [name_f][/name_f] I don’t hate it on a personal level, and soundwise, I think it could work (like Ocean) but not sure how I’d feel about taking a traditional [name_m]Irish[/name_m] name and switching the gender? Apparently Ossnait can be a feminine form but I’m not sure that really works
[name_f][/name_f]
But for some more Irish/Celtic gems (to go with Will@):
