Firstly I am not pregnant! But i would like some opinions on using the name [name]Sydney[/name]/[name]Sidney[/name] in Australia. I am currently living in the US and have come to know and hear of a few Sydneys and have come to really love the name. I will be returning home to Australia soon and will definitely be there if and when I have children. But I am not sure it is as usable in Australia because of the major city, what are you thoughts??? Thanks
I have thought about this as well, and [name]Adelaide[/name] too!
I think I would avoid the name if I were living in New South [name]Wales[/name], but I don’t think it would be too much of an issue, afterall there are plenty of Victorias!
I’m from [name]Melbourne[/name] and don’t really think it would be an issue. I’ve never heard it on either gender here (nor have I heard an [name]Adelaide[/name]). Oh, but there is a [name]Sid[/name] on Home and Away To me it works best on a girl.
I think it would be ok. To me it’s no different than a [name]Madison[/name] that lives in [name]Madison[/name],Wisconsin. Or a [name]Savannah[/name] that lives in [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]North[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]. There are so many places that have become formal names for kids. I think it would be silly to by pass a name you really like, just because you happen to live in that place. I also think that how unusual or usual the name is would have some bearing on if you get weird looks or not. As an example, I live near a town called [name]Baxter[/name]-and I would not name a child [name]Baxter[/name]. However, if I lived in [name]Madison[/name],WI and if I loved the name [name]Madison[/name], I wouldn’t let it stop me. In this instance, I don’t think having a [name]Sydney[/name]/[name]Sidney[/name] that lived in Australia would be odd.
