This was my great-grandmother’s name, its Norwegian and means ‘the sun’s gift’.
I’ve always thought it was very beautiful but I seem to be in the minority, even though it has a few great nn options, including [name]Sunny[/name] and [name]Eva[/name]…
I think it’s a gorgeous name. I experienced a minor obsession with it when I met a girl at work with that name. She spelt it Synn”ve which I think is just delicious!
I may very well be in the minority on nameberry, since this crew tends to appreciate names off the beaten path. I really want to like it because it’s different and honors your grandmother, BUT, I’m sorry I can only hear cinnamon or, worse, cinnabun. Also, really don’t like that the first sound in it is Sin.
I’ve only heard of Sunniva, but I’m guessing Synneva is a variant of that. I think it’s a lovely name with a great meaning. [name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it?
I [name]LOVE[/name] Synneva! I have mentioned this name before in past NB posts. ( It is my great-great grandmother’s name. Her parents were from Norway, and she was named after her paternal grandmother.) I definitely do not care for many of my ancestors’ names, but Synneva is one that I genuinely love!!
I prefer the spelling Sunniva but if Synneva was the name of your great granny, then Synneva it will be. I quite like it. It’s rare, quirky and has exotic European flair all rolled into one! The only drawback may be the pronunciation depending on where you live but if you love it, it’s the name for you!
I have not heard of this name but would have guessed the pronunciation as you describe it above. It has a beautiful meaning and family association so I too would be inclined to use it if it were in my family. Cute nns too
