Tahlia

Thoughts on the name [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f]?

What nickname do they tend to get? I thought Tahli, [name_u]Ali[/name_u] and Tahlz

I was told by someone that they knew a tahlia and they got teased in high school with the nn genitalia or Jenny talia

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that would actually happen?? I wouldn’t have even thought of it but worries me now about choosing it.
What do you think? Thanks!

I wouldn’t have thought of that at all! I’d imagine [name_u]Tali[/name_u] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] would be the most intuitive nicknames.

It depends how you’re pronouncing [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f]. If you’re pronouncing it tay-lia then I can see how they got the genitalia nickname, although I think this is not a very likely association to be made. If you’re pronouncing it more like tahr-lia (I pronounce it this way), then there’s no possibility of someone linking it to genitalia.

I would have thought [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f] wouldn’t have a nickname but option I can think of are Tahli and [name_u]Ali[/name_u], like you said, and [name_f]Lia[/name_f].

Thanks for the reply

Yes I would pronounce [name_m]Tah[/name_m]-lee-ah and that is how they pronounced it too. The girl that told me said it was mainly the boys and they will pick up on things like that whereas I caouldnt see it cause you twist the way it’s pronounced to make that association. [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d see how many people actually think it’s a possibility

I really like [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f], but I usually spell it like [name_f]Talia[/name_f]. I knew two kids by that name in summer camp last year, and met one in [name_f]China[/name_f] with that name, too. Honestly, you can tease someone with any name, so I wouldn’t worry about that too much. The three that I know named [name_f]Talia[/name_f] weren’t teased at all.

Nicknames: Tahli, [name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Ally[/name_f]

I know it as a NN for Nahtalia or [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]. The kid could be mocked so give them a good come back.

I love [name_f]Talia[/name_f]/Thalia/Tahlia (any spelling)! I agree with @carys1 that the “genitalia” thing would be much more prevalent with the pronunciation tay-lia, but I don’t think it will be an issue otherwise. Honestly, kids will tease about anything if they want, and if it lasts longer than a couple days, then there’s probably something deeper going on. So I wouldn’t worry.

I’d probably use [name_f]Tala[/name_f] as a nickname but I don’t think [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f] needs one!

I think it’s nice, although I much prefer the [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] spelling. Never, ever would’ve made the leap to genitalia.

I like this name, preferably spelled [name_f]Talia[/name_f] and pronounced TAH-lee-ah. [name_u]Tali[/name_u] is such a cute nickname I almost like it as a stand-alone. I also love the less common [name_f]Tala[/name_f], and [name_u]Athaliah[/name_u] too.

I think [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f] is beautiful!

Nicknames that comes to mind:

Titi / Tt (pronounced tee-tee)
[name_f]Lia[/name_f] (pronounce lee-uh)

As for teasing/joking, whenever this topic comes up on this forum, I say the same thing - When kids want to tease or bully someone, they will find a way. It doesn’t matter what your kid looks like, what they wear, or what their name is - They will find something to pick on.

My name is [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] and I was called the masculine, [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. I was also teased for having the word “hell” in my name. Who would’ve thought, right? Personally, I don’t think any name is immune to a child finding SOMETHING to twist and make a joke.

Thanks for the reply! i would have never had thought about those things for the name [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]! I know there is only so much testing you can do and they may get teased for something nothing to do with their name but had seen it on 1 online post and then was told it so wanted to make sure it wasn’t a thing for this name eg have heard people comment [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] the harlot

[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is supposed to be pronounced “Tha-lia” with a “Th” sound, not a “T” sound like [name_f]Talia[/name_f]/Tahlia is. [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is a Greek name meaning “bloom”, whereas [name_f]Talia[/name_f] is Hebrew and means “dew” or “by the water”. [name_m]Just[/name_m] to clarify lol. I know many people named Thalia get offended and/or annoyed when people pronounce it wrong. Bye the way, Tahlia is a wonderful name.
