I really like the name [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f]. Does this, by any chance, have another meaning than being an alternate spelling of “tawny”? “tawny” and [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] don’t sound the same in my accent.
Tahnee is Polynesian for “By the Sea”. There’s also “Tarni” which is Indigenous Australian for “surf”. I am not sure where the Tawny connection comes into it - and they’re definitely not the same sound for me either.

I actually really like [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] too! I have seen the Polynesian meaning before, but Polynesian isn’t a language so I haven’t been able to confirm a) which language it supposedly originates from or b) if it is actually a name/word in that language. It may be a folk etymology, but again I haven’t done a ton of research myself.
I’m American so I definitely pronounce [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] and [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] differently.

I would pronounce [name_f]Tahnee[/name_f] and [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] differently. [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] reminds me of tawny frogmouth owls. Tahnee’s meaning of “by the sea” is a lovely meaning!

I am too, and so I’d definitely pronounce them the exact same! They are both Tawny to me! Unless Tahnee is meant to be TANN-ee as opposed to TONN-ee?
