Pronunciation I want is [name]TAHL[/name]-ee-yuh.
My favorite is [name]Tahlia[/name]… but do you think it would be misspelled constantly?
Thanks!

I would go with [name]Tahlia[/name]. That’s my favourite as well. I don’t know what the most widely accepted spelling is, so I figure it will probably get misspelled no matter which way you spell it.
My favourite is [name]Thalia[/name] (prn [name]TAHL[/name] ee yuh). I have a friend named [name]Talia[/name] and she pronounces her name ta lee uh. I’ve seen both [name]Thalia[/name] and [name]Talia[/name], but never [name]Tahlia[/name]. If you want the name to be pronounced [name]TAHL[/name] ee ya, I would spell it either [name]Thalia[/name] or [name]Tahlia[/name].
Good luck!
I’m clearly older than everyone on this board! [name]Thalia[/name] is the muse name, and the one I’d use if “Dobie [name]Gillis[/name]” hadn’t ruined it for me as a kid (in reruns, I’m not that old!). In the show, he always pined for “[name]Thalia[/name]”, pronounced thal-ya. Drove me crazy as a kid.
For [name]Tahl[/name]-ee-ah, [name]Thalia[/name] or [name]Talia[/name] (like [name]Talia[/name] [name]Shire[/name]). but [name]Tahlia[/name] looks like [name]Dahlia[/name] and makes me want to say tall-ya. Weird, but true.
[name]How[/name] is [name]Thalia[/name] the muse actually pronounced? With a T or Th sound at the front? To get prn [name]TAHL[/name]-ee-ah, I tend toward [name]Talia[/name]. I think [name]Thalia[/name] is the prettier spelling though. I can see where you’re going with [name]Tahlia[/name], but I’m not familiar with that spelling so for me it looks like [name]Dahlia[/name] with a T. It’s a relatively uncommon name, the downside being that you will probably have spelling and prn issues regardless, but the upside being that there is no “best” spelling or prn.
Not sure where you live, but [name]Thalia[/name], pronounced Tha-[name]LEE[/name]-uh is a megastar in South [name]America[/name] and Mexico. If you live anywhere with a large Latino population, that’s the pronunciation you’re likely to get with that spelling. That said, as someone with an unusual name, it’s really not that big of deal to correct prn and spelling, it usually only takes once per person.
I think the Th spelling is the “original” spelling, and traditionally has the prn you’re going for. If you like that spelling, use it, and just get ready to explain it. It’s a pretty name, and I’m sure your daughter would get many compliments on it.
[name]Talia[/name] or [name]Thalia[/name] is how I would spell it if you want that prn. [name]Talia[/name] looks the best though imo.
aftorres, would naming your daughter [name]Thalia[/name] be like naming her [name]Shakira[/name]? Is [name]Thalia[/name] that big of a star? Would it seem strange on a non-Latina? [name]Thalia[/name] is on my list for potential future daughter and I live in an area with a large Latino population.
Sorry, not trying to hijack this tread! These are the kinds of questions that nameberry is so great for!
If I were a kid I’d be like “Teehee, [name]Jenny[/name] [name]Talia[/name]!”. Therefore, I must support the other 2 spellings.

It would be a little like that, yes. You can check out her Wikipedia article for a little more info, but she’s sold over 40 million albums, and was a big soap star before her music career. She’s not as current as [name]Shakira[/name], and [name]Thalia[/name] is a name with a lot more history in the western world. I think it’s definitely more usable without the singer taking it over.
I think [name]Talia[/name] is your best bet. It is the easiest to say and spell.
Thanks everyone!
I think I’ll put [name]Talia[/name] on my list.
