[name_f]Evanescence[/name_f] is such a cool band, and while I’m admittedly not their biggest fan, I do respect them, and enjoy some of their songs.

That being said, I love the name [name_f]Evanescence[/name_f], it feels so regal, and ethereal to me, and provides the spunky little nickname [name_f]Nessie[/name_f], which is also my favourite nicknames for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f].

However, I feel like it’s one of those guilty pleasure names that can’t really be used, and I need someone to (kindly) talk me out of using it. [name_m]Or[/name_m], if you really feel like it can be used (unlikely) please tell me why.

I think [name_f]Nessie[/name_f] is a perfect name! It’s one of those slightly different nicknames that may or may not be short for something! I know someone who goes by [name_m]Ness[/name_m] so it’s not a huge leap!

I completely see why you love the name. Evanescence has such a beautiful sound (kind of reminds me of Evangeline) and Nessie would be so cute.

It’s also very tied to the band. I’m an Evanescence fan, Amy Lee’s voice is incredible, but it may be too strong an association and make it difficult for little Nessie to find her own identity. I also think the meaning “vanishing, fading away” might feel a bit too bittersweet.

Only you know whether that would bother you enough to dissuade you from using the name. At the end of the day, I can see how much you love the name and it has a great nickname and is established as a word in it’s own right. I don’t think it’s unusable, just very associated with one specific image.

If I were going to have a little Evanescence “Nessie”, I’d probably name her siblings:

I’m in two minds about this, because my first kneejerk reaction was ‘no way, it’s just the band.’ But[name_f][/name_f] then I thought about all the other band/celebrity names that have crept into use. [name_m]Jagger[/name_m], [name_m]Jovi[/name_m], [name_f]Winslet[/name_f], [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m], [name_f]Lennon[/name_f], [name_m]Bowie[/name_m], [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]. [name_f]In[/name_f] some ways this isn’t any different, just a more fantastical sounding name. I’ve got [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] on my GP list after [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m], but I also love the nature-y sound of it. Admittedly, [name_f]Evanescence[/name_f] leans more goth than rock’n’roll cool or Hollywood glam, and the meaning is a little mournful, so maybe less wearable. But hey, it’s in the database so you’re not the first one to have the idea.
