Talk to me about Marissa

[name_f]Marissa[/name_f] is the newest name on my mind. I pronounce it mə-RIS-ə, not mah-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-sah (I prefer the spelling [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] but want to avoid this pronunciation).

According to the SSA site, it’s losing popularity. It was #78 in 2000 and #320 in 2012. [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] originally entered the top 1000 in 1963 at #988 and peaked at #53 in both 1993 and 1994. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you consider it to be dated?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] for fun, what would you name a brother and sister to [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]?

I went to school with soo many [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]'s… I would consider it dated. I’ve never really liked the hissing sound of the ss in the name. Anyways, as for siblings, maybe… [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Megan[/name_f], and [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] for girls… [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Josh[/name_m] for boys? (Sibsets are really overrated in a way anyways… As long as you’re not naming her sister [name_f]Maria[/name_f], you’re fine.)

I know two [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]'s. One is 20, one is 9. I for some reason think of it as “dated” but I a not sure why.
The [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] I know is a part of a sibset: [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f].

It feels dated to me but somehow was under-the-radar enough (despite a high popularity peak) that it’s never a name that people bring up as a quintessential 80s/90s name. I think it’s the -issa thing - very common in the mid 80s through mid 90s.

Siblings (based somewhat off of Marissas I know): [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] ; [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], [name_u]Evan[/name_u]

I do think [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] seems a bit 80s, but I still like it.

Possible Sisters: [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_f]Desiree[/name_f], Daysha/[name_f]Daisha[/name_f], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Brielle[/name_f], [name_u]Simone[/name_u]

Possible Brothers: [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u]

It sounds dated to me.

Yes, it does seem very dated to me. It is a pretty name! I just kind of see it clumped together with the countless Melissas from my age group. It would probably be a lot rarer on a little girl born now.

But if you absolutely love it, use it! Being dated really doesn’t matter when you’re in love with a name. I love the name [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], which I’m told over and over again is dated. I don’t care, I still love it and might use it one day!

I have never met a [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] so I don’t find it dated! I really like it. I find it sweet and spunky.

I’ve never met a [name_f]Marissa[/name_f], and only one [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] who would be in her 40s now, so I don’t find it dated either. It’s pretty, feminine, and a bit frilly. I’d prefer [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f], with the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection, or [name_f]Larissa[/name_f], though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] girls sitter name is [name_f]Marissa/name_f and she has a sister [name_u]Nicola[/name_u] and a TJ is the brother ( [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] I think)

I really like this name. One of my best friends growing up was named [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]. I don’t think of it as dated at all. I’m surprised it made it to 53 because I don’t know very many people with this name.

I find all of the -issa names to be dated. [name_f]Marissa[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]… all had a surge of popularity in the 80s. They are nice names, but do come off as dated to me.

One of the two names I ever heard made fun of in high school was [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] because of what it spells backwards.

Well, I know several [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]'s (both spellings)
One has a sister named [name_f]Teresa[/name_f].
Another has a sister named [name_f]Natalie[/name_f].

Thanks, ladies! I’ve only ever known one [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] (went to high school with her) so I wasn’t sure if it was actually seen as dated or not! I love that it’s from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] has the potential to grow on me but I’m not sure if I’d ever love it.

I have a thing for 80’s endings. I like both [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f].
