Talk to me about Parker!

Nicely, please. I know [name_u]Parker[/name_u] isn’t most berries’ style but it’s grown on me recently.

A little backstory (I’m sorry, it’s sad though). There was a little girl in my dance community in Kansas named [name_u]Parker[/name_u] Monhollon who was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable and aggressive brain tumor, back in [name_u]January[/name_u] 2016 at the age of 8. She was well known in my area, and especially in the competition circuit, because of her fight. In [name_u]July[/name_u], she tragically passed away, 16 days before her tenth birthday. She was such a brave little girl, and such a fierce fighter, as well as an amazing little dancer. The name [name_u]Parker[/name_u] has tentatively been on my list for years, long before this [name_u]Parker[/name_u], but I left it off because of its masculinity.

However, now whenever I think of this name, I picture a strong, spunky, little dancer. I don’t picture a boy at all. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t get me wrong, I still realize that the name is unisex and wouldn’t be surprised at all to meet a boy with the name. When I think of a [name_u]Parker[/name_u] though, I picture a little girl.

I’m not sure if I could ever use this as a first name because it’s just so different from the other names I typically like. My combos are [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] if I decide to though. I really love the name and it’s growing on me more everyday.

Should I put it on my first or middle name list, or both? Is it too difficult for others to picture on a little girl? I might consider putting it on my boys’ list but only as a middle, and I would still only see a girl in my head when I picture the name. If you think it would work on my first name list, do you prefer [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]? If you think it’s best as a middle name, what would you pair with it (using either names from my signature or ones similar in style)?

Thanks, berries!

First of all, I’m sorry for your loss <3 second of all, I adore Parker on both genders and I think its it’s totally useable! I had Parker Lily on my list for a whilr. I love how Parker Emilia sounds and if people don’t want to like it then screw them, it has a very strong meaning to you.

I am very sorry for your loss . I like [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on both genders, but for me it suits girls slightly more. I like the sound of [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] as it is nicer as a first name to me. I do prefer [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as I think it flows slightly better. X

[name_u]Parker[/name_u] is lovely. I’m sorry for your loss. I have [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] on my list for similar reasons. I could see [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on boys and girls, but I’ve never met one, so it seems fairly unisex. [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is my favorite. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is lovely too. Or you could maybe do [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u].

I want to thank you for sharing [name_u]Parker[/name_u]'s story! After seeing her name in your signature, I found the Facebook page, and was able to learn about [name_u]Parker[/name_u] and her family. I was so moved. Now I know about DIPG and her inspiring fight! So thank you. My heart goes out to you and your community.

I think [name_u]Parker[/name_u] works quite well with your other favorites… [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], and [name_f]Maia[/name_f] all have a very spunky, upbeat feel that is similar to [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are both flawless, it is honestly such a tough call! I think I am leaning toward [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]

Aw, that is such an unfortunate story about poor little [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. I can see why the name is special to you.

Personally, I don’t mind [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on a girl at all, I actually think it’s one of few names that is equally fabulous on girls and boys (compared to other “unisex” names that lean heavily one direction or the other). An awesome female character on one of my favorite TV shows (Leverage) was named [name_u]Parker[/name_u].

[name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] my favorite of your combos, but [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is also cute. I think putting it in the first spot does it the most justice, because to me when [name_u]Parker[/name_u] is used in the middle, it just sounds like a last name, or like it’s hyphenated with the actual last name (i.e. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] sounds to me like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u]-[name_m]Jones[/name_m])

As far as being stylistically different from your other names, I don’t think it’s a huge deal. It doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb to me, so to speak. I agree with previous posters that [name_u]Parker[/name_u] actually shares a positive, energetic feel with many of your others favorites, so they actually work together pretty okay in my eyes.

I actually looked this little [name_u]Parker[/name_u] up online when you mentioned her before (a few weeks back now, I think) and I was so touched by her story. :frowning: A beautiful lil girl.

I’d put this name as both, a first and a middle name option. I’m in the UK where these sorts of names aren’t used, and if they are, it’s on a boy (like [name_u]Reagan[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Reese[/name_u] etc) but I can really picture [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on a girl. I love to watch Outdaughtered though, and one of the [name_m]Busby[/name_m] quints is called [name_u]Parker[/name_u], which probably helps me picture it better on a girl. [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is my favourite.

So, I do not like the name for a girl. Its all boy for me. However, your connection is strong and if you love it, I say go for it, especially if you give her a girly middle name to counter that.

I think most people (in the US/[name_f]Canada[/name_f]) wouldn’t be too surprised to hear [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on a girl.
As for using it as a first or middle name, I probably would put it on the middle name list, simply because it seems more likely that you will use it there.
Choosing a first name is a big commitment and while honouring people (even family) is important to many, the name should still feel like something you’d go for without the connection; it should be something that you feel that you will like (wether that will be the reality or not is a different story) even in ten years time without having to use the “meaningful name argument” (basically convincing yourself of loving the name because it has a meaningful story).
If you love [name_u]Parker[/name_u] but am not sure if it’s something you would use, even when loving it, the middle name seems to be a perfect spot for it!

I think [name_u]Parker[/name_u] would be adorable on a little girl, and I personally like [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].

I really like [name_u]Parker[/name_u] on a girl, and I think [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is awesome!

I think [name_u]Parker[/name_u] can be used for boys or girls (the actress [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] comes to mind) and wasn’t there a female character on Six Feet Under with the same name? Because of these two, I actually can picture it more on a little girl, even though it’s originally a boys name.

I think more importantly is that it has meaning for you. I would go for it.

Oh, I adore [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. Total GP name for me. For boys. Sorry, I guess that’s not what you wanted to hear…
I am, however, aware that it’s technically unisex, and can picture a girl [name_u]Parker[/name_u] way better than, let’s say, a girl [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

For combos, I think [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] sounds nice. Or [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but I feel like it’s always better to put the meaningfull name in the middle to avoid the “middle name just for the sake of having one”-feeling.

Thanks everyone! I’m sorry I haven’t responded sooner, everything has been crazy here (it’s my first week of college plus the eclipse), but I appreciate all the feedback!

@dream.create and [name_f]Eryn[/name_f], I’m so happy that I was able to spread awareness for the disease! [name_u]Parker[/name_u]'s journey and fight was very inspirational and I’m glad someone else was as touched by it as I was.

I used to find [name_u]Parker[/name_u] exclusively masculine until a couple years ago, so I understand where some of you are coming from when you say it’s more of a boy’s name. I’m happily surprised though that so many of you not only can picture it on a girl but possibly even see a girl when you picture the name! I think it works wonderfully on both sexes, so I’m glad I’m not the only one.

I’m not for boy’s names on girls, but I actually like [name_u]Parker[/name_u] for a girl. I would use it as a middle name!

The story behind your love for this name is beautiful. I think it’s a fantastic girl name, with a very classic, feminine middle.

I vote for [name_u]Parker[/name_u] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
