Tamlyn (pronounced tam-lin) is a name i found in a book i read recently, and i must say i kind of fell in love with it. Definitely a boys name, even with the ‘lyn’ ending. I was just wondering what others thought of this name!
I’m assuming this is a variant of [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f], which is one of my favorite ballads. If you’re not familiar with it, read it if you plan on using Tamlyn, because anyone familiar with [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f] is going to ask if that’s where you got the name. It’s been adapted dozen of times, so even if they’ve never read the original, they’ve probably read an adaptation. Or, perhaps it’s just that I’m a nut and collect every adaptation there is of [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f], so I’m the one assuming it’s well known. 
As much as I love [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f], Tamlyn feels off to me. I don’t dislike it, but… hmm. It might just be it looks wrong to me because I’m so familiar with [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f]. You might like [name_m]Tamerlane[/name_m].
Thanks for the extra information redwoodfey, I will go and check it out! I’m not sure if the author of the book I read intended it as a variant of [name_m]Tam[/name_m] [name_f]Lin[/name_f] but it’s definitely possible!
Honestly, I am not too fond of it and it feels too feminine to me (and I like [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Teagan[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], etc on boys).
Did the author make it up? If so, I’d avoid it.
I’m also not that fond of it. The name and nicknames ([name_m]Tan[/name_m], [name_f]Tammy[/name_f], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], …) do sound quite feminine. Not that familiar with the cartoon though

Sounds like a contraction of [name_f]Tammy[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]…a sixties/seventies name.
Boy’s name? No.
It reminds me of [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], which I love for a girl. Honestly, [name_m]Tam[/name_m] names seem more suited for girls.
A boy wouldn’t want to be called [name_f]Tammy[/name_f].
