Tan... Boy or Girl?

So I just heard the name [name_f]Tanis[/name_f] and Im kinda starting to like it and its variation [name_f]Tanith[/name_f]. with the nickname [name_f]Tawny[/name_f].
But when looking it us I also found that the [name_u]Tannis[/name_u] spelling is a boys name. What do you think about the name? Is it better on a boy or girl?
Also, how would you pronounce it? I haven’t found much on the pronunciation.
Thanks!

It’s a boy name. But I’d recommend using [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] instead

[name_u]Tannis[/name_u] and [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] sound like masculine names to me. I would pronounce them as Taw-nis and Ten-nith. For me it would sound more girly if you make it [name_f]Tanitha[/name_f], or [name_f]Tanisha[/name_f] or maybe even [name_f]Tanya[/name_f].

[name_f]Tanith[/name_f] is one of my favorite names and is all-girl to me. (I first heard of [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] because of the ice dancer [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] Belbin, who pronounces it [name_m]Tan[/name_m](as in “getting a tan”)-ith, so [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] as a nickname would be surprising.) [name_f]Tanis[/name_f], too. I guess [name_u]Tannis[/name_u] could work on a boy; I just don’t like it as much. [name_f]Tanis[/name_f] reminds me more of girls’ names ([name_f]Janis[/name_f]/[name_f]Janice[/name_f], [name_f]Candice[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], etc.), so I’m surprised that the other commenters feel it has a masculine sound.

I’ve met a woman named [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] ( [name_m]Tan[/name_m]-ith). So, I guess I only think female with this name.

I really like [name_f]Tanith[/name_f], I could see it on a girl. [name_u]Tannis[/name_u] makes me think of the sport tennis.

I had a co-worker named [name_f]Tanis[/name_f]. She pronounced it “tan-iss.” [name_m]Tan[/name_m] as in you’re getting a tan.

I used to go to school with a girl named [name_f]Tanith[/name_f]. Back then I thought it was so weird but now I think it’s so awesome! I don’t like [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] as a nickname as I prefer just the full name. The girl I knew was pretty popular and very sporty.

I love [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] on a girl! I’m not sure how I feel about [name_f]Tanis[/name_f]. I don’t like it as much as [name_f]Tanith[/name_f], but I don’t hate it. I definitely think it works on a girl, but it does feel more unisex to me than [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] does.

I went to school with a girl named [name_u]Tannis[/name_u], she pronounced it [name_m]TAN[/name_m]-iss (tan like getting a sun tan). [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] reminds me of the author [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u], and as far as I know, it’s pronounced [name_m]TAN[/name_m]-ith. They both feel more feminine than masculine to me.

[name_u]Tannis[/name_u], [name_f]Tanis[/name_f] and [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] all seem masculine to me.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I am leaning more toward [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] for a girl

[name_f]Tanith[/name_f] is all girl to me. I really like it. I can’t really see where nn [name_f]Tawny[/name_f] is coming from though, I’d see that as a separate full name. My favourite ‘tan’ name is [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]. [name_u]Tannis[/name_u] just makes me think of Stannis from Game of Thrones.

[name_f]Tanis[/name_f] and [name_f]Tanith[/name_f] are both female names for me.
